#My Origin, my pride

Culture is a way of life of a group of people. It entails costume, food, clothing, and many other things.
I'm from Africa, Nigeria to be precise and as we know, Africa is rich in culture and traditions.

Some Africans these days are neglecting the African culture. They don't teach their kids about custom or tradition, including our local dialect. I feel that is not good enough.

The typical African dressing is usually very complex and has evolved over the years with the blend of western culture, it's all coming together.

I love the African dressing a lot but not always able to wear it all the time, because of work and at times I may just want to dress casual.
It gives me that look of a very mature lady.

As you know, we celebrate a lot in Africa, and if you want to look responsible and be respected in an occasion, you have to dress in a traditional attire.
I love to attend parties like the wedding ceremonies, burial ceremony, naming ceremony and the likes.
That's the only opportunity I have to rock my traditional attire with my head gear gele

I once worked with a boss, who all the years I knew him never came to the office in a western dressing like other CEOs. He always put on the traditional Yoruba attire in a simple way, called the buba and sokoto
He travels to Europe, America and Asia countries all the time but he never changes the way he dresses or complain about how his staff dress. All he talks about is modesty.

He said he loves his origin and will always be proud of his rootsBold. Nigeria is usually very hot except during the rainy season which is still nothing compared to Winter. He said he wouldn't put on a shirt, tie and jacket in the heat and feel good about himself copying the western culture.

I would actually go with the idea of my boss.
I believe what is ours is ours and should be guided and protected. We may not be able to let go of the western culture but we should cherish our own and teach our children, so that we won't wake up one morning and find out that our culture is gone.

This is my response to Hive Ghana weekly prompt.

Aunty Origin you try 😂

Well on a serious note Africa dressing is just cool and much better in my opinion too, although I'm not a fan of occasions and ceremonies like you, but I would have preferred wearing them all week if it were possible.

This is a strong and valid point you made oo. May we not wake up one day to find our culture gone.

Here in Lagos State where I reside, the state government has incorperated one day of the week to be fully cultural day. Teachers are to dress in the complete iron and buba for women and buba with sokoto for men. I am also aware that one Nigerian language is made compulsory in schools now.... I believe this will help our cultural heritage greatly

You are right sis.
Lagos is doing it, some states in the south west are also doing same. Let's just hope.
