It is very important to buy the right tool when involving in Fiber Optics. As a fiber optic technician, the quality of my work depends not only on my skills but also on the tools I use on daily bases. Over time, I have come to appreciate how each tool plays a specific role in building and maintaining reliable fiber networks and ensuring that my customers have stable Internet in their homes and offices. Most of the tools I bought them myself to prevent story that touch on site.
Some of the simplest tools in my kit are the side cutter, screwdriver, and utility knife. The side cutter helps me trim cable ties and cut cable jackets. The screwdriver is useful when installing faceplates, patch panels, and fiber enclosures. The utility knife helps me remove the outer sheath of fiber cables before preparing them for fusion splicing.
For fiber preparation, I use a fiber stripper to remove the protective coating without damaging the glass fiber I am talking about the cladding. After stripping, I use a fiber cleaver to make a clean and accurate cut on my fiber. A good cleave is important because even a small imperfection can affect the quality of a fusion splice.
The fusion splicing machine is one of the most important tools I use daily. It aligns two fiber ends and joins them using an electric arc, creating a permanent connection with very low and negligible signal loss. This allows data to travel efficiently through the network without any disruption or flunctuation.
I also use a Visual Fault Locator (VFL) or source light as we locally call it, to send a visible red light through the fiber to help locate breaks, bends, or other faults. The Optical Power Meter helps me measure optical signal strength in DBM and verify that a link is performing as expected.
Another essential tool is the OTDR which stands for (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer). It sends pulses of light into the fiber and analyzes the reflections to locate faults, measure cable length, and identify splice losses for every events it comes across.

Together, these tools help me ensure that every fiber link I work on is reliable, efficient, and ready to support modern communication as all homes these days as well as offices cannot do without the Internet. Almost everything are automated with the smart home and smart offices
