Fairy Green Eyes

How best to get back to posting? Anyone got any good advice? Except for

Simple - don't stop posting in the first place!

Or how about

Just do it!

Always a welcome slogan, right? But okay that's what I'm going to do. I'm just going to post this making of that has been sitting in my draft folder here on Peakd for at least a year.

Green Fairy.jpg

I'm not entirely sure why I haven't posted this until now. Maybe it's the fact that her mouth and chin are still bothering me. I feel they're a little out of place and weirdly shaped. In the gif you can see that both changed quite a bit between sketch and finished piece.

Though, on a positive note - I like pretty much everything else about her and the picture as a whole. Obviously, it is not a very realistic depiction of a female face but then again it isn't supposed to be real. There's a fairy in the pic and - are fairies real? Well, I suppose they could be.

I love her eyes

They are green, they are larger than life and they sparkle.

Also the little flying fairy or pixie sprinkling pixie dust all over - awwww.

In these pictures you can see well that it is a mixed media piece. The main media was watercolor mixed in her face with a bit of acrylic paint on thick paper, graphite pencil, some scrap paper pieces, gesso, Posca pens, micron pens, a gold pen (or two), golden stars and - I think that's about it. Enough, right?

The finished piece definitely has a bit of an uneven surface. And I do like that about mixed media art. Something you just cannot replicate with digital art.

To round it off, here is a gif of the different steps from sketch to finished piece.

And now I really want to do another one of these.

I also want to mention that there was a time I watched a lot of Tamara Laporte's courses and this piece here is very reminiscent of that time. At least the whole face how-to and being a mixed media piece. Definitely check her out if you like to learn more about this style. Her courses are also very affordable.

Have a great rest of your day!

Cheers,

This looks great! I think the chin is okay, it gives it character I reckon! I like your style, it’s got some good appeal to it! I used to enjoy drawing and had one piece that I thought was incredible but that was in 9th or 10th grade in high school and likely long gone lol. I’m more of a pencil artist I think, I like the look of grays with the graphite.

Funny you say that because I just commented on another artist's pencil drawings that it is one of my first loves and I'll always come back to them. I love the minimalistic look but at the same time the intricacy you can achieve with pencil.
