Teach children not to be envious.

Envy is a harmful feeling that paralyzes you and prevents you from moving forward. It's a feeling that occurs because some people feel bad when they see others achieving things. And it's important that we raise our children not to be envious.

Since my second child was born, I've been very careful to ensure that this feeling doesn't appear in them and that they have a good sibling relationship where they learn that the improvement of others is the improvement of oneself and that under no circumstances is anything being taken away from them.

And that's the issue with the envious person who believes something is theirs and that it's being taken away from them. It's a false sense of ownership. It's important for children not to feel bad if they don't get their way, but we also need to show them that things aren't rightfully theirs and that if they want them, they have to earn them. Many times they will lose in life and won't get what they want, but that shouldn't stop them from continuing to try. I raise my children not to believe that the world revolves around them, but rather that they revolve with it. A world in which we all travel.
