The Ring I picked.

I'm just your average Joe- Jake's the name. Life was pretty damn boring if I'm being honest. The same old routine day after day. Wake up, drag myself to the soulless office job, come home beat, plop on the couch, rinse and repeat.

But then this one random day, everything changed. I was walking home from the bus stop like usual when I kicked this soda can out of my way. As it went rolling, something caught my eye glistening in the dirt.

I brushed aside the leaves and there it was - this thick, golden ring covered in weird etchings. It looked wicked old and valuable as hell. I scooped that sucker up real quick, glancing around paranoid-like in case someone tried to jump me for it.

The streets were dead empty though. I booked it home, my heart racing a mile a minute. Once inside, I studied that ring up close under the lamp. The craftsmanship was mind-blowing. And those markings didn't look like any language I'd seen before. More like...mystical symbols or some shit.

I know, I know - I'm a grown man. But I started wondering...was this thing actually magic? Should I try putting it on? Ah screw it, my curiosity got the best of me. I slid that puppy right onto my finger.

That's when the real trippy stuff started happening. Those etchings started glowing faintly and this warmth spread up my arm. Next thing I knew, my whole damn room was swirling around me like I was having a bad acid trip. I collapsed on the couch, dizzy as hell and about to hurl.

When I finally came-to, I wasn't in Kansas anymore. I'm in this torchlit dungeon straight out of Lord of the Rings! My jaw must've hit the floor. I'm thinking I've finally lost my mind and this is all just an insane dream.

But then this growling noise comes from the shadows. Out lumbers the biggest, nastiest looking ogre you've ever seen - eight feet tall, green and scaly with massive tusks. The thing looked ready to tear me a new one.

I was saved by this little bearded dude in a robe who blasted the monster with some kinda magic staff! He grabbed me and we booked it down these creepy tunnels with the ogre hot on our trail.

Eventually the guy bars us in this room to catch our breath. Turns out I've been transported to a freakin' magical realm thanks to the ring! The old dude confirms trolls and all that crazy fantasy stuff is real here.

Just as I'm trying to wrap my brain around everything, we hear a massive crash outside. The ogre found us. The guy says it'll be even harder to beat this time around.

I look down at the ring on my finger, the one that kicked off this whole insane adventure. Who knows what other mind-bending craziness is in store for me in this magical world? I sure as hell didn't see my Monday going this way!

This is a lively and interesting story, @zino01. We would have loved the story to be a bit longer. What about dialogue between the narrator and the bearded guy? How are they going to escape the ogre the second time around? Why doesn't he just take the ring off and see if that gets him back home? In other words you created a great setup! But it just drops off and feels unresolved in the end. Readers are typically looking for the end of the story to tell them "how it all turned out."

Thanks for sharing your story in The Ink Well. Be sure to read and comment on the work of at least two other writers for each story you publish in the community. Thank you!

The bearded guy was very helpful in saving you again the ogre. Will he help the second time?
