By 9am my day looks effortless.
Wake up. Skincare. Prayer. Journal. Work. Content.
People comment āHow do you do it?ā āI need your discipline.ā āTeach me your routine.ā
I just smile and type back āGod and consistency ā¤ļøā
Behind the scenes, itās 5:02am.
My alarm rang at 5. I snoozed it. Then snoozed it again.
Iām lying there in the dark in. Awka, negotiating with God like Heās my project manager.
āIf I get up now, will you make today easier? Will the clients pay on time? Will I not feel like quitting by 2pm?ā
The real version of me isnāt waking up motivated.
Iām waking up tired. My eyes are swollen and weak. My back hurts so much from sitting too long yesterday.
I donāt want to pray as usual. I donāt want to journal. I donāt want to be the āput togetherā person today.
But I do it anyway.
Because the 9am version of me has a Zoom call.
Because people are watching.
Because I told myself last night that I would show up.
āBehind the scenesā is making your bed even when you want to crawl back in and pull the duvet over your head.
Itās drinking water before coffee because you posted about āhydrationā last week and now you have to live it.
Itās replying āIām good, thanks for checkingā in the group chat when youāre actually overwhelmed and havenāt eaten.
Itās choosing the hard thing when no one would know if you didnāt.
At 5:15am Iām in the bathroom. Cold water on my face.
Iām talking to myself in the mirror. Not the cute affirmations kind.
The real kind. āGet up. You said you would. You donāt owe anyone excuses. Just show up.ā
At 5:30am Iām at my desk. Laptop open.
The house is quiet. No NEPA yet. Just the sound of my fan and my own breathing.
This is the part nobody sees.
Not the glow. Not the productivity.
Just a girl, tired, choosing herself before the world asks anything of her.
People see the results.
The neat desk in my pictures. The calm voice on calls. The āIāve got thisā energy.
They donāt see the 5am negotiation.
They donāt see me googling āhow to stay consistent when you donāt feel like itā at 5:40am.
They donāt see the days I cried after sending the email because I was scared it wasnāt good enough and i was going to get rejected.
Last month someone DMād me: āI admire how disciplined and consistent you are. I wish I could be like that.ā
I wanted to reply: āIām not disciplined. Iām just scared of letting myself down.ā
But I didnāt. I said āThank you, you can too.ā

Because hereās the truth Iāve learned:
Discipline isnāt motivation.
Discipline is what you do on the days you have zero motivation and you do it anyway.
Itās ugly. Itās boring. Itās 5am and dark and nobody claps.
āBehind the scenesā is also saying no.
No to scrolling. No to ājust 5 more minutes in bed.ā No to the voice that says āyou can start tomorrow.ā
Itās choosing future me over present me, even when present me is begging.
By 7am the sun is up. Iāve prayed. Iāve written 3 pages in my journal that nobody will ever read.
Half of it is complaints. The other half is āGod, help me.ā
Iāve sent 2 emails. Iāve made my bed.
And now, when I post a picture at 9am with a caption like āGrateful for new day,ā itās not a lie.
Itās just the edited version.
Iām not sharing this to brag about waking up early.
Iām sharing it because I think we all have a 5am version.
The version that shows up before the world sees you.
The version that does the work when thereās no audience.
The version that keeps promises to yourself.
That version deserves credit too.
So hereās mine. No filter. No ring light.
Just me, at 5:02am, choosing to get up.
If you have a ā5am versionā too ā whatās the thing you do behind the scenes that nobody claps for, but you know matters?

The harsh truth is that no one can imagine how difficult it is to be the best version of yourself every single day. And when you fail, people throw it in your face as if they know you. It's happened to me countless times; it hurt, and it still hurts, even though to err is human, it's seen as something unforgivable.
being the best version of your self is not easy, when you fail to do that people use that against you but we are mortal and not perfect, we will just do what we can.
Discipline may be lifeless, but showing up when nobody is watching is what leads to real growth.
That's a great reminder @yalloveme55 thanks for sharing
exactly dearš„ā¤ļøā𩹠I'm glad you picked the point š
It's not always ABI discipline, sometimes it is just about what is at stake, if you fail to show up, what will happen? That is why we do what we do do.
