I was with a very close friend of mine yesterday. We have known each other for a very long time now. People usually think we are brothers because we were mostly found together, wherever he is I will most likely be there too. This is because we are old time friends. We went to the same primary school, same secondary school and we are currently in the same university. In fact the same faculty to be precise, while I chose to study computer engineering,
He chose to study civil engineering.
We were discussing the new vice chancellor of the university yesterday when he began to remind me of what we passed through as secondary school students. Of course there were good and bad moments but then While we were discussing, it was as if he unlocked a part of my memory I thought I had forgotten. He made me remember a day we were disgraced in front of the whole class. That period, we were in an exam class preparing for our W.A.E.C ( West African Examination Council),which was to take place in a few weeks from that time. We were all reading in preparation for the exam. One day, our further mathematics teacher entered our class as usual to teach us,
But then I noticed the way he looked at me in a bad way which seemed weird to me because at that time I was a shy guy and so I always hated making eye contact with anyone, even teachers well i didn't let that bother me. Few minutes to the end of his class, He called me, my best friend and two other guys out, he told us to face the class and he said "this guys standing beside me, can't pass further mathematics in W.A.E.C" immediately he made that statement, I felt like a sharp knife pierced my heart I felt so bitter i tried to hold back the tears which formed almost immediately...I'm sure I wasn't the only one among the four of us that felt bad that day. He went further, by giving all four of us a letter of undertaking to sign( the letter was about we not blaming him for failing further mathematics in W.A.E.C). When I read the letter, I felt even more hurt... I was so confused as to why he made the decision and why he decided to disgrace and discourage us. He even told us to drop further mathematics, and look for another subject to replace it. Although at that time I also noticed I was weak in further mathematics, but then what he did was very wrong and made all four of us look down on ourselves for some time.
But then that statement made me, my friend and the other two students that were also called out that day sit up. It made us more determined to prove him wrong. We formed a group just the four of us, and taught ourselves most especially, further mathematics, which unknown to us, helped us improve seriously. When the time for the exam came we were a bit tensed up but then we were so determined to prove our further mathematics teacher wrong by acing the exam.
Personally when I saw the exam questions,
I felt so relieved because the questions seemed to be way easier than I was expecting. Less than an hour I was done and when the results came out, I was in disbelief for some minutes because I never believed I was going to get an "A" but yes I did get an A!!.
I ran to check what my classmates scored. It turned out everyone's face was a bit moody except for the four of us. I tried to know why others weren't happy but then I noticed most of them didn't do well in the examination.
At that time I had mixed feelings. I wasn't happy because my classmates didn't do well in the exam, but then I was also happy that I, my friend, and the two other guys were able to prove our further mathematics teacher wrong. At that moment, I was happy our further mathematics teacher called us out because if he had not called us out, we probably would not have worked so hard to prove him wrong and most likely wouldn't have done so well in the exam.
I'm glad that you did not let this teacher's harsh words turn you away from your goal! You sure showed him! 😁💪
Yes I'm also glad I didn't let it weigh me down ...thanks for reading ❤️❤️
never should we let anything or anyone decide who we are and what we become, I'm glad you didn't let that stop you.
Very true never look down on yourself for any reason!!🤝❤️
Really nice story, it shows that when you make a decision and stay determined until the end you can achieve your goal. Well constructed story.
Best greetings.
Very true determination is key!! Thanks for making out time to read my story 😁
Those who doubt us are our greatest teachers in life at times. Once in awhile, they pin-point areas where we can focus in on improvement, although often with a lot of difficult feelings intertwined. This is a wonderful tale of giving it your all, and seeing the benefits that offers. Although it was long ago, we'd still like to congratulate you on your A! Thank you for sharing your story with us, and for your engagement with other members of the community.
Yes although his words hurt me that day it made me sit up and study like never before thanks for stopping by 😁❤️

This is a great story of perservance. It is very special that you and your classmates took the negativity of the teacher and turn it into something positive for yourselves. Many congratulations. Not everyone has sucha strong will - some would have taken it to heart and given up. It it great that you did not.
Thanks for making out time to read the post😁😁❤️
Word is power, your teacher thought he had succeeded in disgracing you and your friends not knowing he even helped the four of you to become focused.
