The Bakery Incident.

I can remember this very day like it was just yesterday lol🤭....then I just got admitted into the senior secondary school i was so excited i was starting a new phase of my life and all. One day, my English teacher then (Mrs lizzy), had just given us a group project that was to be submitted in two weeks. It was a bulky assignment, and it was worth about 35% of our grade, so I knew we had to start working on it right away.

I was so excited about the project i honestly didn't know why...

probably because that was the very first project I was to do as a senior secondary school student. Well, whatever reason it was, I immediately started brainstorming ideas with my group members. I single handedly divided the tasks among the group members lol, and shortly after, we set out to work.
However, as the deadline drew closer I started getting really worried... I felt like the other group members were the ones delaying my submission. I couldn't focus on any other thing and so I kept disturbing my group members to hurry up with their part of the project.

One of those days while I was waiting for some of my group members to send in their part of the project so that I could collate them into the final document, I kept on picking up my phone just to see if there was any new message and refreshing my inbox😅😅 .... I did this every few minutes and my frustration grew increasingly with each passing minute. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, I received all the parts i felt so relieved and happy and so I quickly put together the final document..I was so pleased with all the group members, and most especially myself for being so efficient even though they delayed with their submission and so I decided to show a little appreciation, by buying some cup cakes for my group members, from the bakery which was just opposite the school. So We all left school....we were marching towards the bakery, when we noticed a police car parked outside the school building.

At first, we didn't really read much into it but as we got closer, we noticed that the police were actually talking to a group of students and these students were also in the same uniform with us, hence they were from our school.

We figured out that something was definitely wrong and we started to walk faster and steadily towards the bakery with many thoughts running in our minds. We soon got to the bakery, bought the cakes and quickly headed back to school. But just as we were about to enter the school, we saw another police officer coming towards us.

"Excuse me students, can I ask you just a few questions?" the officer said.

So We stopped and the officer began to ask us about our whereabouts that day. My heart skipped a bit because we usually weren't allowed to leave the school premises during school hours and so I felt he was going to report us to our principal. I quickly told him in a trembling voice, that we had been in school working on a group project and that we just went to buy some snacks across the road. But still the officer didn't seem convinced with all I had said, probably because we were all carrying our bags and so he felt we could be hiding something from him and so he told us to open up our bags.

We didn't have anything suspicious in our bags, but we of course still had the cupcakes which we just bought and since we couldn't prove we actually paid for them, the police thought we had stolen them from the bakery i was a bit scared yet angry with the policeman, for thinking we stole them but then i was too scared to show how angry i was😅. He told us he was going to take us to the principal

and that was what I feared the most...we tried begging him, but our pleas just fell on deaf ears. Shortly after, we were taken to the principal's office, and some teachers ( disciplinarians ) were called. We tried to explain that we didn't steal from the bakery I also gave honest reasons why I lead my group out of the school well the principal forgave us for going outside, but insisted that we must be punished if it was later confirmed that we stole from the bakery like the police man claimed and so our principal refused to let us leave his office but shortly after, the bakery owner showed up ( probably after hearing what happened to the group of students who patronized him earlier) and vouched for us and that was what made our principal release us. It turned out that some group of students, most likely from Another school close by, had stolen some cupcakes from that bakery earlier that day, and so the police thought we were the suspects.

I was so embarrassed and ashamed of myself for almost getting us all in trouble. I learned my lesson that day, and I promised myself never to rush things again.

Thanks for reading 🤭❤️.

You guys were saved by the owner of the bakery because I don't think you guys would be freed if something happened actually.

Hello there!
This creative non-fiction was a relatable story. Group assignments can be challenging, as it always feels as if some people are not pulling their weight, and tardiness can cause anxiety. Your action in taking leadership and motivating the team was commendable. It was a relief to know that you and were crew were not wrongfully accused.
This was an interesting read, and we would like to invite you to check out the weekly prompts provided by the community, and we ask that you engage with other authors and leave some feedback for them.
