Janet was furious as she sat in the sitting room, waiting for her husband, Mike to get home. She looked at the wall clock, it was already 11pm.
She tried to focus on the TV, just for some distraction, but her mind was all over the place.
She wondered how her husband would be out by that time and he didn't even bother to call.

Suddenly, she heard his car drive in and she was just ready to explode. Mike opened the door to see Janet sitting there, not doing anything. She was the most furious he had ever seen. It was obvious from her facial expression.
"Where have you been?" she asked, trying to contain her anger, but failing badly.
"Uhmm, I...I was at..." Mike stuttered as he tried to speak
"Oh, so you can't talk now?" She asked.
"I was at the bar" Mike was finally able to blurt that out.
"So you were at a bar so late at night and you didn't even bother to tell me? You even ignored my calls" Janet said
"I went to clear my head. I didn't want any disturbance" Mike replied.
"So I'm a disturbance now, right? Do you realize you have a family waiting for you at home?" Janet said at the top of her voice.
"Please I'm not ready for your shouting tonight" Mike said as he went to the kitchen.
He checked the pots and he didn't see anything to eat.
"Why is there nothing to eat in this house?" Mike asked, now angry because he was very hungry.
"Why will I keep food for you when you decided that you would better spend late nights at the bar than at home with your wife?" Janet said.
"This is the thing about you. I give you money to prepare food regularly. Yet, making food is difficult for you. All you do in this house is murmur, quarrel and shout at me" said Mike.
"That's because you always annoy me. You make life difficult for me. You don't help me out with chores in the house. You stay out till late at night" Janet replied.
"You always blame everyone but yourself. You make my life hard Janet. You stress me out" Mike said.
"You know what, I think it's time we end this marriage. It's clearly not working. I have put up with your rubbish for too long" Janet said with an expression that showed she was tired of the entire situation.
"Fine! If that's what you want, let's end it then." Mike replied.
Janet took out her ring and kept it on the table as Mike watched. Tears rolled down her cheeks. She took her things and left the house.
Janet went to her parents' place. She knocked on the door. Her mother opened the door and was surprised to see her with her bags.
She explained everything to them and she spent the night there.
Janet woke up the next morning with a feeling. She was already missing Mike. She missed how he would wake her up everyday with kisses all over her face. She missed his voice, his smile and his jokes. She missed how he would dance without caring about how bad his dancing was.
On the other hand, Mike woke up miserable because he missed Janet. He missed her cooking. He missed how she loved to cuddle. He missed her laughter.
They obviously missed eachother and were still in love with eachother.
Janet stayed on her bed. She looked at the ceiling. She couldn't believe she ended her marriage the night before. She realised that she did that in the heat of the moment. She thought maybe she let her emotions cloud her judgement. She remembered the vow she made to be with Mike forever. She remembered all they've been through as partners.
She thought about the things Mike complained about her. She knew they were mostly true. She had a part to play in the entire situation. Janet realized that walking out on the marriage may be a bad decision and she wanted to make it right.
She held her phone in her hands.
"Should I call him?" She thought, as she sat on the bed.
Suddenly, her phone rang. It was Mike.
"Hi dear. I miss you. Nothing feels right without you. I'm sorry about everything that happened" Mike said.
"I miss you too. I was contemplating calling you" Janet replied.
"Please come back, let's fix things. I'm willing to change for the better" Mike said.
Janet smiled on hearing
those words. She went back to Mike and they fixed their issues.
Oh, this is such a nice story. I love that a major portion of it reflects the dilemma faced in many marriages today; the incompatibility that could actually be fixed.
I'm glad Janet and Mike got back together after realizing that effort changes everything.
