It started as a bet

Tony and Mark were at a bar having fun. They had a good amount of alcohol to drink. While at the bar, Mark taunted Tony about how he had lost his rizz.

"It's funny how you fell off Tony. You can no longer approach a woman and make her like you" Mark said.

"That's not true. You know I left that game a long time ago. I still have it in me though" Tony replied.

"I don't believe you. You know what, I dare you to make that lady over there fall in love with you within two weeks" Mark said.

He was pointing at a beautiful lady seated alone at another table just having a drink.

"Alright then. Challenge accepted" Tony replied.

A few minutes later, the lady stood up to take her leave, and that was Tony's cue to make his move.

Tony chased her as she went outside to enter her car.

"Excuse me miss. I think you dropped your pen" Tony said, pointing his own pen at her.

"Oh, that's not my pen" she replied.

"Really? I saw it close to your table. Nevermind. By the way, your dress is really beautiful" Tony said.

"Thank you" the lady replied, now blushing.

"It matches your eye colour" Tony said with a cheeky smile on his face.

"Wow, we just met and you're already staring at my eyes"

"I couldn't help it. You have such beautiful brown eyes" Tony replied.

"Thank you" she said, visibly shy.

"Please can I know your name?"

"I'm Sharon"

"Nice to meet you Sharon. Do you mind if I get your number?”

"I don't mind at all" Sharon said as she took Tony's phone and put her number in it.

Over the next five days, they communicated a lot. They texted all day. There were calls late at night.
Sharon had already fallen for him. It was shocking to her how she fell so hard this fast for Tony. He had a way of getting deeply rooted in her heart. He brought her peace, made her happy, and gave her undivided attention.

However, for Tony, this was all a bet. It was a game. The plan was for him to get her to fall for him. He wasn't supposed to fall in love with her and he didn't intend to. But to Tony's surprise, he found himself thinking about her a lot. Her smile gave him butterflies. He always looked forward to hearing her voice.

In fact, with each passing day, he was more fascinated and excited by her. Her very presence lit him up.

One night, while Tony and Mark were having a drink, they got talking.

"So how are things going with Sharon?" Mark asked.

"Well, she's already in love with me" Tony replied.

"So you do have it in you afterall. I guess you can end things with her now" Mark said.

"I don't know man. I can't end it yet" Tony responded.

"What do you mean? Wait, don't tell me you are falling for her too" Mark said with shock on his face.

"I think I have fallen for her. I don't know how it happened but I am in love with her" Tony replied.

"What! How do you think she'll feel if she finds out this was all a bet" Mark asked

"She doesn't have to find out" Tony responded.

A week later, Tony and Sharon began dating. It was the best period of both their lives. They enjoyed each other's company very much.

One day, while they were together, Tony went to use the bathroom. He left his phone on the table. Next, a text from Mark came in.

"I can't believe what started as a bet grew into a solid relationship. I'm happy for you and Sharon"

Sharon read it and she couldn't believe what she had read. Her head was already spinning. She was trying to process and make sense of what she had just read.

Tony stepped out of the bathroom to see Sharon furious. He got confused.

"Did you make a bet with your friend about making me fall for you?" Sharon asked, visibly angry.

"Sharon, please calm down. Let me explain" Tony said.

"You're not even denying it. So it's true." Sharon was already crying.

She couldn't believe that the entire relationship was based on a lie. The lie went on for so long.

"I'm really sorry. It started as a bet but I fell in love with you along the way. Please forgive me. I didn't mean to hurt you" Tony pleaded.

"You made a fool of me Tony. I can't trust you and I certainly can't forgive you. Goodbye." Sharon replied as she walked away.

Tony went after her, pleading for her to forgive him, but Sharon's mind was already made up. That was the end of the relationship. Sharon moved on and never looked back.
