Hidden Enchantment

In the middle of sprawling countryside situated between undulating terrain and rustling woods, there was a quiet village called Eldermoor.

These cobblestone streets were curving like ribbons, going past cottages made out of timber decorated with colorful flowers and covered in ivy.

But behind this beautiful screen was hidden the secret that united people, every one of them had an intrinsic magical talent inherited through generations.

There was a grand old oak tree at the heart of Eldermoor with its crooked arms stretching to the sky as though it wanted to touch the heavens.

The story went around that this tree is where the village got its magic from, a gift given to its residents by friendly spirits centuries ago.

Amongst the villagers there was young Aria whose spells were a wonder, and no one could match her skill at weaving them. Her broken bones got fixed.

Conjured images of prettiness which children in Eldermoor liked had been made by Aria in the same way. Nonetheless, Aria knew that she should never let people see how strong her magic was.

One autumn morning with clean skies when leaves had begun turning gold and red and spreading their carpets on earth, a man arrived in Eldermoor who wore a cloak which cast gloomy shadows on him.

This stranger, whose name was Elias, said he was traveling merchant looking for medicinal herbs and potions that were rare in nature.

The newcomer fascinated Aria, who peeped at Elias from the shadows as he made his way through the village, observing everything around him with a keen eye.

There was something about him that she knew was wrong, an undercurrent of darkness lurking behind his handsome features. But no matter how hard she tried to unravel it, she could not unearth her true intentions.

Day by day Eldermoor felt alive with excitement for the annual Harvest Festival, when everyone in the village came together to celebrate good harvests and other things related.

However beneath all this there was steam like tension ready to burst. Soon rumors of odd events began spreading; plants dying suddenly and livestock falling ill for no apparent reason.

Aria resolved to find out the cause of this village’s misery, and she moved towards the forest prepared for anything that could go wrong.

While it was there beneath a canopy of old trees that Aria met Elias whose hands had been spotted with blood of a rare white deer.

It dawned on Aria with a heavy heart that Elias was not just an ordinary merchant but a sorcerer who was set to take away Eldermoor’s power for himself. His evil magic had sown disorder among the villagers, thus sucking life out of the earth every day.

Touched by fury, Aria screamed at Elias in a silence as if one has dropped something heavy inside the forest.

She used all her might to cast spells around Eldermoor for protection from any harm banished Elias from its borders forever.

The sun went down and a warm glare fell on the village. Underneath the ancient oak tree that was Aria’s haunted heart weighed heavily with secrets.

Regardless of their troubles, inhabitants of Eldermoor never changed, being united by an unbreakable bond.

This is how Eldermoor stayed alive as a village without its magic being discovered by those who wanted to use it for their own purposes.

It implied that so long as the acacia stood over its cobbled streets, people would always be successful in their undertakings; they had their hidden talents integrated into their living pattern.
