As Chika and Chioma sat in the love garden-A place meant for relaxation Within lagos state university. They were engaged in a deep conversation while holding hands.
"I will marry you and make you mine forever." Chika whispered in her ears.
"Mr dreamer, how do you intend to do that?" Chioma said as she chuckled.
"I will work hard and become a better man." Chika replied.
Chioma put her palms on his cheeks, "i dont need you to be a better person, i love you just the way you are."
But unfortunately not everyone viewed from her perspective.
The following year, Chika and Chioma both graduated from college with good grades and after their youth service Chioma got a job in an oil firm while on the other hand Chika was still unemployed after 3 years of graduating from college.
One evening, Chika stood in front of chief Emeka who was Chioma's father.
"Are you the one coming for my daughter's hand in marriage?" Chief Emeka asked.
"Yes sir, i love your daughter very much and i want to marry her." Chika replied.
"Love you say? Love can't feed her and love without money can't build a solid home. You are just the poor son of a petty trader, you have nothing to offer." Chief Emeka said mockingly
Chief's word's pierced his heart deeply putting him in a state of depression.
"But sir..." Chika stammered.
"Will you shut up and get out of my house this moment!" Chief Emeka
Chioma who had been listening from inside the house came in, "Dad please stop this, my heart beats after Chike and it is him whom i will marry."
"You must be out of your senses, do you think i trained you for nothing? I know what is best for you and you must do as i say otherwise i will disown you." Chief said angrily.
Chika left their house that evening with a heavy heart.
Chioma called him the following morning, "baby don't let what my father said get to you, i love you so much and i know things will soon get better because i believe in you."
"It's fine babe i understand, any father will want the best for his daughter but i will come back for you i promise." Chika said.
Chika started working as a sales boy, pump attendant, anything reasonable he could lay his hand's on for money.
One hot afternoon as Chika sat outside his one-room apartment ruminating on his life, an idea struck him.
"I could learn a handwork like production of shoes with these little money i have saved, Since white collar job's aren't forthcoming." Chika thought to himself.
The next day he told Chioma about his idea and she agreed it was a good one, she also promised to support him financially while he was learning his skill.
Two weeks later Chika begun his apprenticeship at a popular shoe factory in lagos. With the love and support from Chioma he kept going, took his lessons serious and within a space of 18 months he had acquired the full knowledge and skill.
Chioma was happy with him and decided to loan him one million naira to start up his own shop and buy his working tools.
Chika rented a shop, bought his tools and started working, people came to order footwears of their choice from him and he did it so perfectly as his products were outstanding, attracting more customers.
The workload became too heavy on him, then he had to employ some worker's. His bank account grew big and so did his confidence.
Two years later Chika was able to start his own company which he named Mk footwears. His wealth increased and his fame spread like wildfire accross the city.
He bought houses accross town and built two five star hotels which generated more income.
One cool evening on a Sunday, A convoy of three land cruiser' with Armed security escorts pulled up at the gate of Chief Emeka's mansion as they honked the horn.
Chioma went to open the gate When one of the escorts opened the back seat's of one of the land cruiser's and Chika stepped out wearing a twenty-four gold karat chain worth million's of naira on a white senator-a Nigerian native wear.
"Oh my God!Chika is that you?" Chioma exclaimed.
"Yes my love, God has finally done it and through your support i was able to achieve my goal in life."
Chika told the security team to wait outside as He and his fiancee went inside to see her father. Chief Emeka stared at him in shock while calculating the worth of his gold chain and the senator which he wore. Chika looked like a made man.
"A lot has changed about you my boy, chief said."
"Yes sir, by the grace of God i'm a made man now and i am here to take Chioma as my rightful wife." Chika said with a bold of confidence.
"Of course you can, you have my blessings." Chief said.
" Really dad! Thank you so much." Chioma said as she gave her father a warm embrace.
