The Cheat

“Can I look at your photo album?” Margarita asked as it was her first time visiting her friend, Marissa. Although they had both introduced themselves right in college some weeks ago when Marissa met Margarita in a heartbreak situation,

“Yes, of course you can. Let me search for the second one”, Marissa was so happy with her friend's visit.

Marissa quickly dashed to the kitchen just to prepare her friend something to eat, being the first time visiting. Margarita could not hold the aroma coming from the kitchen, and she voiced out “You must be a good cook”.

“My mom taught me how to cook”, she replied while smiling. Margarita went straight to meet her in the kitchen and asked, “Please, I need to learn from you, as I was not opportune to learn how to cook as I grew up in my uncle's house, who was always buying fast food. So, can you please teach me how to cook?”

“Don't worry, today is your first day of coming to my abode. I have to do the cooking, and you will relax until I'm done. I will teach you starting tomorrow “, Marissa said while she continued with her cooking.

Margarita went straight to sit on the couch and continued with the photo album. As she was flipping from one page to the next, she was smiling deeply. When she flipped to the next, she paused and was gazing at the picture she saw so intensely. Her mind was not settled, and years started gushing out of her face. She became wounded yet again in the heart. The picture she saw reminded her of Sam, her love, whom she caught with another girl.

Marissa peeked through from the kitchen, as she could not hear Margarita's voice. She even thought she had gone.

“What's wrong?” Marissa asked.

“Nothing; I just remembered something after seeing this picture. They are perfect together”, Margarita replied.

“Yes, that is my friend who resides abroad. I hope these tears are not because of Sam, the one you told me about.” Marissa asked.

“If not Sam, then who should it be? He left me heartbroken. Why would he cheat on me? If someone told me about what Sam has done, I would not believe it, but seeing things myself made me believe all the rumors I have been hearing “, Margarita responded.

“You just need to take heart. I can see you loved him so much”, Marissa said while she found her way back to the kitchen.

Margarita continued flipping the photo album. She was done with the first album and proceeded to the second album. She was about to open it when Marissa entered with a plate of rice. Likewise, she collected it and ate it. Not only that, but she again carried the album and opened it. After flipping ahead, the spoon she was holding dropped from her hand. Marissa immediately rushed to meet her in the dining room and asked, “What's wrong?”

“In this picture, who is he?” Margarita asked while in a state of heartbreak.

“Hope no problem?” Marissa asked politely.

“I just want to know”, Margarita responded, just as if they had had a fight with each other in the past.

“Are we fighting? Just be calm and allow me to explain what you have seen to you”, Marissa said.

“OK, I'm listening “, Margarita replied.

“I told you about a guy who left me for another girl the last time we met. This guy was everything to me and was behaving so nicely. I never knew that all was a pretense. He was loving and caring, and I was foolishly dancing to his music until I caught him with another girl red-handed. This time, it was so clear that he had nothing to explain. This was how we departed. I only thank God that we had just known each other for two weeks, and so it did not hurt me that much”, Marissa poured out her mind.

“What's his name?” Margarita asked.

“He is Tom”, Marissa replied.

Margarita brought out her phone and scanned through the photos and handed the phone to Marissa. She was left shocked after seeing the same guy who had cheated on her on Margarita's phone.

“What!!”Marissa yelled.

“This guy is a cheat”, Margarita said.

Speaking of the devil, Sam called Margarita and began to apologize.

Margarita and Marissa concluded that they should both go see Sam at the venue where they both planned to meet.

Sam was shocked to see Marissa. He pretended he did not know Marissa, but was not comfortable.

The two friends began to make gestures at Sam. “How are you, Tom?”, Marissa said.

Sam was confused and was short on words.

Sam was given the worst disgrace of his life.
