The White Mansion

Living life has been so unpredictable that you just can't tell what the future has in store for you. We tend to have aspirations, desires, wants, needs, and a lot more of all these things in life. And then we keep working towards achieving them. The means of achievement come in different forms. Some are dreams, and some we have to face as reality.

When I was much younger, we saw life differently, but some of those moments and memories we had are stuck in our heads to date.

It was after lunch one day that we were watching television in the sitting room before the power went off. So we had to channel our energy elsewhere.

My brother broke the ice with a question.

“How would you like your future to be? He asked.”

We pointed at him to go first since he was the eldest among us. He didn’t hesitate but gave his swift response.

“I would love to become a scientist, so I can test a lot of things, and also invent things too.”

We smiled and acknowledged his words.
He was the bright type who would always lose almost everything at home just to make sure he sees what’s in it. Most times, his actions get him into trouble with our parents, but he doesn’t care.

“Okay, your turn,” He pointed at me.

“I want to have a lot of Money, buy a big land, and then build a nice mansion with a swimming pool,” that was my response.

They smiled and wished me well.

My younger sister was the last; she chose to be a celebrity.

Time flew, and we lived on and grew older. At times, I forgot about the dreams I had, how big I wanted to live and enjoy my life, and we were satisfied with the way we lived back then. It wasn't so bad nor just too good. Just an average kind of lifestyle.

While growing, life began to appear different, and we moved from our residence to somewhere else. The lifestyle over there was so different from the one we had before, I can say it was like moving from frypan to fire.

Those dreams I had long forgotten surfaced again. I thought that only if my parents had enough money, then we wouldn't have settled for this, we would have opted for somewhere much better with more luxury.

There was nothing I could do about it. All I had were mere dreams, and I kept living them in my head. I had the mindset that when it's my time to get a home, if it's not a mansion, then I am not ready to live in it.

I got accustomed to the way of life I had with my siblings and parents. It was so fun around them that I almost forgot about those dreams again. Life is just all about happiness. That was sufficient for me.

I then realized that dreams might just fade, but they don’t disappear. You might forget about them for some time, but the moment something spikes it up, you will always come to recall all you dreamt about.

Years after I was done with schooling, it was time to serve my country. I wished to be posted to the north, but I was posted to the east. And the easterners are known to be business tycoons, wealthy personalities. I didn't confirm that until we had to visit one of our Patrons.

Everything speaks of luxury! Deep within me, those dreams emerged. My heart pumped, and I knew this was what I wanted. He was a chief and a wealthy one. He lives in a mansion with his family. I saw how refreshing the environment was, flowers in the right corners, and a great pool at the center of the compound. All I could utter was Wow!

We got into the living room where he hosted us, everything was furnished in pure white, the chairs were so sleek and soft, the cooling system so moderate.

Apart from the luxury appearance, everything happened to be simple and classy, so that I just couldn't get those pictures of my head. So I can finally get to witness what it is like to live in one's dreams. Those were just temporary but those moments were inscribed into my brain.

I knew it was going to take me a lot to achieve that, or I might not even get to achieve it. But just seeing something I have long wished to experience come to reality was one thing I appreciated.

My mum always says, When will appreciate good things, they will definitely come to us, so I believe yours will come true as well. Don't stop dreaming.

I also had those ‘if not a mansion, I don’t want it’ dreams as a kid! Life humbles us, but like you said, glimpses of our aspirations (like visiting that chief’s home) reignite the fire.

You were able to experience what it would be like to live in the mansion of your dreams. I imagine that filled you with wonder and makes you long to live in a house like that. Time will tell, the important thing is to keep dreaming; it's the driving force behind achieving everything we want.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

Good Friday.

Hmmmmm. Keep the hope alive dear. I believe with God there's nothing impossible and as long as there is life, there'll surely be hope. I look forward to visiting you in your luxurious mansion with a swimming pool someday. That day I'll remind you of this day and we'll give glory to God together.

Of course, I'll also have my luxurious mansion in different countries of the world too by then, with so many yachts and private jets, traveling from one country to another.

Life is all about happiness - I liked that line especially. Just keep your hope burning and I believe you'll get where you want to be soon, with your mansion and swimming pool.
