Living a Life of Impact

Recently, I had a deep conversation with my brother, during which we found ourselves reflecting on different past experiences, one of which was those involving encounters with our extended family members and how those moments shape the way we see them today. These discussions went on to become an eye-opener, as they went on to reveal how much of an impact people's actions, be they positive or negative leaves on others, sometimes for a lifetime.

During the course of our conversation, I was made to realize how well we were treated by some of these family members, who treated us with kindness, love, and support,, and with the way they treated us then, today I for one won't mind going to great lengths to come through for them if the need ever arises. The impact they had on us left a lasting mark that made us realize the importance of having people around you; it's not like they're perfect, but still they did good without expecting anything in return, and I believe these acts of selflessness and sincerity were what made their kindness unforgettable.

On the other hand, we also have others whose behaviors towards us were negative; while others were building bridges, they chose to rather tear them down. The impression they left on us back then makes us hope we will never have anything to do with them again. While it's understandable that we humans must learn to put the past behind, still it's worth noting that even now I'd struggle to go the extra mile for them, because the choices back then left a lasting sour taste that still lingers to date.

This reflection taught me something profound: that the way we live, the kind of impact we leave behind, and the way we treat others shape how people will think about us even long after that moment has passed. But does that mean we should live a life of positive impact because we want others to see us in a good light? No, I believe living a life of positive impact should be a standard and the way things should be done and not because of what we're expecting in return. When our motivation to do something is tied to recognition or reward, then the sincerity is lost; true positive impacts come from the place of doing good because it's the right thing to do.

We all must understand that life is short, and people tend to remember us based on how we treat them more than the words we spoke; that act of kindness that you can't offer to someone else today despite having it might mean the world to others. While it's understandable that not everyone we helped would come back to be grateful in the future, still we know the principle of the sower and how the seed of good we showed would continue to grow in their heart regardless.

Overall, I've made up my mind to live a life that positively impacts the lives of everyone I come across, not because of what I'll get in return or applause, but because it's the right way to live. This should be how we treat everyone, be it family, friends, associates, or even random encounters. I want my life to be remembered for the good it carries and not for the harm it caused.

I can relate to this, you get to experience the real character of humans in your low movements. I got to experience mine when I lost my dad. The one I least expected showed up and the one input all hope on was making money through me and still backstabbing me and my siblings. But we thank God we still have some good ones around so it's good to appreciate and go all out for them.

I think sometimes we forget that. We forget that life is short and we just do whatever we want thinking we have a lot of time to amend our ways.

We don’t have the time we think we have. The right time to do the right thing is now because that is what we have.

Thank you for sharing this with us, GP. ❤️
