It's hard to believe how different life was for people before the unions fought for fair wages and a 40 hour workweek. There were fair and generous employers but they weren't the norm.
I don't have my ears to the tracks anymore when it comes to the Hive-drama but I've seen skirmishes here and there over the last few months that make me feel uneasy. The vibe is reminiscent of the year leading up to the Steemit hardfork. If we could, somehow, move beyond that as a platform I think this place could be great for the majority of users. The framework is already here and it's proven to work if we could just move forward with enough unity and consensus that the platform isn't driven off the rails again. I prefer the perfect omelette to scrambled eggs. : )
As I only know Hive that is really interesting to hear and at the same time quite sad.
Things got really dicey in the year leading up to the hardfork. A big part of that was driven by the Steemit founders back then. It was very sad to see people who had invested so much time and energy into the platform leave altogether. A lot of the true-believers migrated here to Hive. Over time, I think, people just develop fatigue from continual drama and disharmony.

I know, it's hard to imagine what we could be if we could all agree on something, but I guess that is true of a lot of things right now isn't it? I appreciate what some of the bigger accounts do to fight the abuse, but the sense of entitlement and a lot of other factors just make it difficult for some common ground to be found.
Even if we could meet halfway and compromise on things, this is how the world used to work. Divisiveness is precisely the problem with everything these days.
I read an article recently about soft succession here in the US. It was quite interesting. I guess it's already underway. The Democratic governors are meeting regularly together to figure out ways to self-govern independent of the Republican leadership in Washington.
The author of the article believes this could lead to a full-on succession that would look like something similar to this map. Honestly, considering the striking differences in ideas and opinions this is the only path forward I see unless some miracle happens. I'm working on a post about this very thing now.
