Weekends are days I often look forward to during each week because I see them as an opportunity to get away from the stressful demands of my work, go home, or find an interesting place to enjoy the moment, either via relaxing, spending time with my family and friends, working on my garden, or simply taking proactive action so as to rejuvenate and come back stronger to work. This tradition has been recovered for months, and it's beginning to look more like a circle. However, these weekends play out in a much different form that I find not just exciting but also heartwarming, wishing many weekends would be like this, and in this article I'd tell you how my weekend went.
This weekend starts getting exciting from the very first day, Friday, and the reason for that isn't far-fetched. You see, today happens to be World Teachers' Day, and being a teacher by profession, the union of teachers in my community decides to organize multiple events to celebrate ourselves as we mark this day. Knowing fully well that we're a big part of this world and our influences play a vital role in modelling and shaping the lives of young ones towards the right direction, not just intellectually but also morally. So given the fact that my work life is somewhat boring aside from teaching, I was thrilled by the opportunity to party with my fellow teachers.
So on Friday evening, the first event was held at a GUS FM radio station hall in my community. There were numerous programs lined up, and I enjoyed every bit of it, from each person being encouraged to share their story to listening to inspirational tales of fellow teachers, even to the good music, dancing, and making merry. There are also games such as asking questions relating to our fields and civil service rules. To crown it all, awards were presented to outstanding teachers who have been making mind-blowing impacts in their schools, and even though I didn't win, it was a joyous thingsee my friend and colleagues win the second-best teacher in the junior school category.
After the awards section, we also had the raffle draw section with loads of mouthwatering prizes, such as a plot of land, a bag of rice, a tin of milk, and the like. Unfortunately, I didn't win anything, unlike two years ago when I won a pack of noodles. To cut the long story short, I went home late and exhausted, and so I slept for most of the Saturday. When I woke up I simply did some laundry, found something to eat, and visited my garden to tend to my plants.
By today, Sunday, which happens to mark the end of the weekend and also is World Teachers' Day, I woke up early with a task on my mind: to take the fabric of my friend's wedding to the Moto park so the bus driver can help me transport it to the state they reside in. Going to the park makes me tired, so I didn't go to my place of worship; I simply relaxed after returning home, and by noon I visited the hall meant to host our main teachers' day event in my community. Although it wasn't as interesting as the one we had on Friday, it was also lovely; we had a lot to eat, drink, and talk about before calling it a day.
So that's about it for basically how I spend my weekend. Presently I'm sitting in the living room, sitting on the couch and typing my response to this prompt as I reflect on how my weekend plays out.
