Building a Lasting Relationship: What to Look for in a Partner

When it comes to picking a life partner or deciphering what's important or should be looked out for in a partner, a lot of people usually come up with different criteria and what they need in their partner, and the truth is that everyone is right in their own way because it's their life and their expectations. But overall, what should one look out for in a partner? Should you go into a relationship with someone just because you love them or just because they've a good job and earn big, or should one just choose a partner because of their appearance and the like? Below I'll be talking about my take on this in detail.

You see, like I said above, whatever anyone picks as the most important, they're right because it's their life and they're the one who will be with the partner, but personally for me, if I were to talk about what's important when picking a partner, it's worth noting that I don't have a single criterion for picking a partner, and that's because when you go into a relationship with someone because of just one thing, such a relationship would be rushed or break apart when your partner loses that thing. Take for instance, you go into a relationship with a person because they've got a good job and earn lots of money; if such a partner loses that job, that, in my opinion, is a time bomb waiting to explode because what brings you together isn't there anymore.

The same is the case when you go into a relationship with someone because they always make you laugh. What would be the fate of that relationship if such a partner were faced with difficulties in life that hindered them from telling jokes or saying things that put a smile on your face again? Even those who go into relationships because of physical beauty mostly know that beauty will fade one day with age or unforeseen life circumstances. When that happens, will you simply dump that person and go for another partner? And even if you do that, for how long will you keep changing partners?

in my opinion One thing can't be the reason why we go into a relationship with someone. If at all you must go into a relationship with someone, the number one criterion is that you must genuinely love the person you want to be your partner, and that's because love supersedes everything. When other things fade away, it's the love that you have for such partners that'll keep fueling the relationship. That doesn't mean you shouldn't look into physical appearance when going into a relationship, because if you're not physically attracted to your partner, then there's a high tendency of your cheating, so what then is the point of making someone your partner when you will not be attracted to them?

The same goes for their job security and the amount they earn. These are essential in our world today, so before delving into a lifelong relationship with someone, you must be assured that you've a job and earn something that can be used to help your family in one way or another. Peradventure the person doesn't have a job, they should at least exhibit character that shows they're not lazy and are willing to work. All these are essential and critical to look out for when picking a partner, but overall make sure you love the partner; that, I believe, is the greatest criterion, but overall a combination of all is what helps one pick the right partner.
