Spending Sundays at the beach always feels different.
The peaceful sounds of the ocean, the saltiness of the air, and, of course, the powdery sand beneath our feet make Sundays the perfect escape. This Sunday, we decided to treat ourselves to a much-needed dose of vitamin sea at our favorite beach getaway, Chema's by the Sea.
Once we arrived, my children, who are bubbling with excitement, pulled at my hand begging me to change into their swimwear. They could barely wait to run across the warm sand and meet their tiny hermit crab friends.
Yes, this is the reason why they like it here. It has a lot of friendly hermit crabs, according to them. As a mom, watching them gently scoop up the little shells with care and curiosity warmed my heart. How simple joys can make a day special.
After hours of building sandcastles, hermit crab hunting, seashells collecting, and giggly chases down the shore, we settled under the picnic hut for lunch.
Whenever weekends come, we usually give our kids some siesta, and being at the beach is no different. The kids, who were now full and weary because of their morning activities, cozied up in their beach towels and earned our hugs for some rest while listening to the waves splashing and kissing the shorelines.
While the boys were sleeping, my husband and I enjoyed some time. We enjoyed the shoreline and the kiss of waves on our feet and talked all about our summer vacation plans and, of course, all our incoming bills. Haha.
The moment the kids were awake, they were full of energy. They are ready to conquer the water and sand again. Our Sundays are meant for them. This time, we sat, played with their sand toys, and created sandcastles under the shade of the Talisay or Tropical almond trees.
Then, when the sun’s rays weren’t so angry already, we grabbed the kayaks and paddled out into the calm, glassy waters.
The kids were so delighted as we peacefully paddled above the ocean.
It was an epic adventure, filled with alone time with us, the sea, and laughter.
As the sky turned to pink and orange hues, we began to pack our things. With tired bodies, yet simply full hearts, we packed our things and started looking forward to the next time we could come again. Sundays like this one remind me how we can have these moments—so simple—and yet filled with love, laughter, and memories that would stay with us forever.
