GREAT MARKETING

I used to think people could be honest when they were trying to sell a product, I guess I was just very naive then and it made me buy a lot of things I did not need, or things that were below the quality of my expectations. I think it was because my expectations weren’t very high to begin with, I used to be someone who just goes to the market to get a specific item and pay any amount as long as it was within my budget. I used to see my mum spend time pricing one item and I used to find it annoying, to be honest I still find it annoying because I do not have the patience, but now I understand how necessary it is to get the value of my money especially when I worked for it.

I remember one of the eye opening days of my life was a year ago when I got my phone, I had the phone I wanted in mind which had all the qualities I needed from a device. I needed a phone with a great camera, and at least 8gb ram. Every other feature to me did not really matter because I knew what I needed it for. But reaching the phone shop, I told the sales girl what I wanted to get, she looked at me with a smile and gave me, but then said “If you would ask me, I would prefer you get this instead.” According to her, the Phone she was suggesting has all the attributes I wanted and more and she was sure I would like it.

I don’t know if it was what she said or how she said it, but I ended up buying the phone trusting everything she said without verifying for myself. I ended up regretting it after I got home because truly the Phone had all the qualities I needed, but with one less feature I really wanted. It was 4gb RAM instead of 8gb and that made me realize that I would have stood for what I really wanted and would have only considered what she said and done my own analysis. It was too late to regret it, and I am currently living with my choice.
