Recently I found myself facing a very big problem which was as a result of my foolishness. I was trying to be smart and it landed me in big trouble. Trouble that has managed to wreck me financially and left me with almost nothing. Now I understand why wealthy men usually advise we young men to avoid debts at our young age. This is because it hinders our growth rate, especially when greed becomes the major factor. Growing up I’ve watched my dad in two stages of his life, one as a young man, and another as an old man. I have reflected on both stages of my dad’s life and concluded that if I must be successful in life I must not make the same mistake twice.
I am almost out of the debt my foolishness landed me, but then when I am out, I can not afford to make another mistake, else I might never recover again. My dad had me at the age of 24, so I got to see him a lot at his young age. I was 10 years old when he had his first debt experience, it was so bad that he had to run away at one point, but slowly he bounced back bigger, acquired more wealth and was at the verge of advancing to the next level when he lost everything he had slowly to debts. Now he is older, the strength to start over again is not as much as he had then coupled with the daily responsibility of raising a family.
His mistake was not managing his progress, my mistake was greed. I wanted to make it big and was ready to go all out for it. It made me take unnecessary risks like borrowing and at a point trying to outsmart the system by using debts to pay debts but then it was never enough until I hit the rock bottom. I was a fool for trying to outsmart the system, I was a fool for not being content with what I already had, and by the time I realized my mistake, it was already too late. Well, I am where I am right now, but I will never make this mistake again.
