EVERYONE IS SELFISH

I believe every human in his/her right senses is selfish, this selfishness means that we are capable of handling our own shit and thinking about ourselves first before others. If we see it like this, we can see it is the natural order of the world and even animals are like that, because it’s everyone for themselves. No matter how much a parent loves her child, the parent would not want the child to be overly dependent on them as they too have their lives to live. This is why what the parent would do instead is teach the child how to do things on their own and some animals will even leave their children to figure everything out because in the jungle it is every one for themselves.

But then there are degrees to selfishness, and that is where the tag “You are selfish” comes in. There are situations that require empathy not for oneself but for others especially when you are in a better situation to do so. I remember one time in my company my MD worked in the office and was in a good mood, so he gave one of the supervisors a load of cash to share equally among employees. The man never knew I was watching him from the CCTV camera when he was sharing the money and taking a bit from everyone's money…

I sent the video to the HR and he was issued a query. But that made me wonder how many times he has been doing it and whether it was really because he needed the money desperately or it was just his character. It turned out it was his character, which is the character of a lot of humans who refuse to leave the jungle mentality and embrace empathy. I do not blame them sometimes because the world itself is not fair and a lot of them came from places where such things were normal, others developed these characters as children and were never reprimanded for it, now their adults and the society is suffering things the family failed to tackle.
