Strangest denomination coin?!?!

So I was doing some research on weird coinage to add to my collection and came across something really interesting.

Meet what is possibly the strangest denomination coin, at least at first sight:

A 1.95583 Leva coin from Bulgaria!

Now, that denomination may look a bit weird but it actually makes sense.

You see the Leva is pegged to the euro, at... €1 = 1.95583

The lev is pegged at €1 = 1.95583 leva (previously DEM 1 = BGN 1, continuing the fixed exchange rate from the third lev). source

These coins were minted in 2007 issued in commemoration of the European Union. They have a respectable weight of 20g, made of 0.999 silver. Not bad!

The minting date is not a coincidence of course, as 2007 is the year when Bulgaria officially gained EU membership.

This is a coin I'd love to own but unfortunately I couldn't find it for sale in ebay and other favorite places I go for coin hunting. Mintage according to numista mintage is a bit low at 14000 pieces, so that's probably why :(

If by any chance you happen to own one and would like to sell it feel free to contact me. Maybe we can arrange a deal 🤝

Ok plebs, this is it for today!

Owning one would be quite an achievement for me. I like how its unique denomination is something I have never seen or heard off before. Nice of you to share this haha. Any idea on how much it might cost?

It's a nice coin. Was it only minted once in 2007 and never again?

Good luck Bulgaria in attempting to imply a hard peg to the Euro. Sounds better than the EUR/STOTINKAS trading pair but with the Euro not looking very good in the long term it'd be a great idea to add some more gold to the 40 tons of Bulgarian Reserves. This would make an interesting add to your stack @trumpman

I can't help with Bulgarian coins. But if you like some Czechoslovak or Czech coins, I am available.

The European Union is weird.

Joining countries have to use the euro, right? So what is the point of minting something in a local and no longer useful currency?

But I am probably missing something. The European Union is strange.
