25 Penniä (with crown!)

What's up plebs!?!

I took a small break from posting and everything to recharge my batteries and I am back with another shiny piece from my collection!

So, today we have a 25 Penniä coin from Finland. This is a really small piece, just 1.2747 g heavy with a purity of 0.750. Or about 0.95 grams of pure silver 😅😂

Not a wife changing amount of silver, that's for sure. 🙃

But as a collector of silver coins from all over the world I don't mind the size. As long as the price is fair and it was. If memory serves me right I paid something like 5-10 % over spot, a bit more than I wanted but silver tends to only go up and I don't plan to sell anytime soon so it's all good!

Ok, now let's see some close up photos. With the coin being so small and everything I had a really hard time taking proper macro photos and only had some success by shooting in black and white. No idea why:

Here's something more clear from numista:

As you can see this is a really basic coin with not much to see.

On one side we have the denomination and minting date while on the other a crowned imperial double eagle holding scepter and orb. While researching about the coin I found out that there is also a rarer and more expensive version without a crown.

You may wonder why...

Here's the tldr. In 1917, Finland declared it's independence from Russia. The 25 penniä coin with a crown was minted before the independence (under Russian rule) whereas the one without a crown came later symbolizing Finland’s new independent status.

Learning from coins is fun 😄

Ok friends. This is it for today. See you soon with shiny coins!

Nice coin. I guess it's interesting to see how history changes how the coins depict things.

Welcome back, fellow numismatist! Love the tiny Finnish gem you've showcased. Those macro shots are impressive, even in black and white. The historical tidbit about the crownless version adds a cool twist. Can't wait to see more shiny treasures from your collection! 🌟🪙

"Really cool coin and backstory! Do you prefer collecting pre-independence coins like this one, or post-independence ones with different symbolism?"
