Happy April Fool's Day and Hive Power Up Day!
I did consider a title of my post today "Hive Power Up of 10,000,000 HP", but that's even a little bit far for April Fool's Day! This is the one day of the year you can combine your pranks and jokes together with you monthly power up. I very nearly forgot to even do a power up, and may not have even gotten around to it . However, that would have broken my over two year streak of doing so... I couldn't let that happen!
I believe you can win prizes for participating in Hive Power Up Day (HPUD), however, I honestly don't recall what they are anymore. I'm sure they can be easily looked up though!
April Fool's Day
No one is really sure about the exact time that April Fool's Day first appeared. Some have proposed it even goes back to biblical times with the great flood and Noah. I personally have some doubts about something that old... In the 1600's there was a prank in an English newspaper telling people to come to the Tower of London on April 1st to see the lions get washed. Of course such an event never happened. But it has become a tradition in western nations for centuries now.
I've never been one much for the day personally, but I've had friends who absolutely love the day. I usually avoid them come the first day of April each year. I did search for some silver trinkets associated with the day only to be sadly surprised there really aren't many. But I did find some interesting commemorative casino chips that were produced by Mahoney's Silver Nugget Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. It no longer operated under that name making it defunct. They produced yearly numbered chips just for the holiday, here were a few I found on eBay:
That might be a fun collection to start! They aren't too badly priced at around $6, but remember, they have no monetary value as I'm sure the casino demonetized the chips long ago when the name was changed. A way they have to get around paying out anything on older chips people might still be holding onto over the years! After all, casinos never like to pay out any money whenever avoidable...
