Working On The Field With my Lovely Tools

Working as a Fiber Optic Engineer, one has to have a complete tool. Getting ready and preparing for site is very important. Getting the tools ready and in a very good shape is very paramount as well. The following are the tools needed to achieve daily work for me.

  1. VFL: Visual Fault Locator
  2. OPM: Optical power Meter
  3. Optical Fiber Cleaver
  4. Fusion splicing machine

1. VFL: Visual Fault Locator: This is also known as Fiber Optic Source light. The major use is to detect the continuation of optical signal. If everything is fine with the core, there should be light at the other end. This is the second best way to test a fiber core, while the best is using OTDR

2. OPM: Optical power Meter: The next on my tool list is Optical power Meter. This tool is mainly to test the optical power. It has the required reading in most cases is in negative reading. The higher the negativity the higher the optical power, which implies that the router would not get an Internet access

3. Optical Fiber Cleaver: This is one of my daily tools also, its main use is to have a clear, clean and trim cores. In as much as the core is well trimmed then the splicing will be smooth

4. Fusion splicing machine: The splicing machine is my major tool, and without it nothing can be done on site. This my machine I ensure that it is clean and dust free.
