Where Your Money Goes Matters More Than Income

I just finished listening to a story of a young guy who believes wealthy people are wealthy because they earn a lot of money. As a guy who works as a sales boy in a supermarket and getting low pay, he doesn't believe he will ever become rich unless he starts to earn big salary.

It turns out that this same guy whenever he gets his salary, goes with friends to club, buy expensive drinks, clothes and eat out until the money finishes and he's back to counting down to his next pay day. Surprisingly, he never even thinks he's his own problem with his finances.

But a moment changed him... He witnessed a family being thrown out their apartment for not paying rent and he heard a sentence that felt like it was directed at him... "You work but you do not plan". This guy went home to think on that saying and it changed his mind to learn about finance.

He immediately started planning with his next paycheck, no eating out or clubbing with friends, no new clothes buying and he realized how much he's saved when he tracked his expenses. He didn't wait for another paycheck in despair, he was happy and excited for how good things were.

Not that his salary went up, he only gave his salary a purpose and life became better for him. He learned wealth comes from accumulation, not a one-time action. He learned discipline over the things he would usually do with his money, it wasn't easy but he had a strong why to keep it up.

That story wasn't only about that guy, it also gave us some financial advise and it is not a new advise. We may not be clubbing out with friends to buy expensive stuffs with our earnings like the guy but we do have places our finances are leaking away, tracking our finances will reveal it.

I've been learning so much about my money habits and I realized one funny thing... I don't get to buy all the nice things or cravings I usually like and somehow, I've been living my best kind of life for a while now. That is because I'm doing the bare minimum of keeping healthy and peaceful.

I've realized I didn't even need to spend all those spendings I did in the past, I'd have saved so much by now. But that's in the past, I know better now and I'm loving my new financial reality.
