Perlas de inversion. La herramienta - Investment pearls. The tool

Money is not an end in itself, and that is something we must never forget; otherwise, investing makes no sense. As the saying goes, there’s no point in being the richest person in the graveyard. As hard as it may be to believe, many people make this mistake because getting into "investment mode" generates an adrenaline rush similar to playing sports.

That’s why I like to use the technique of the three piggy banks, boxes, or whatever metaphor you prefer:

  • Emergency Reserve: You need money available for unavoidable unexpected expenses. This first piggy bank prevents you from panic-selling your investments at a loss. It should be large enough to get you out of an urgent jam, but not excessive, and invested in highly liquid, low-volatility assets where the yield goal is simply to match inflation.
  • Project Reserve: This second piggy bank is designated for specific goals, such as buying a home. What matters most isn't just where you invest the money, but how you do it. Since it has a defined timeline, it is much easier to tailor the investment and maturity dates accordingly.
  • Growth Reserve: Focused on building long-term wealth or creating a legacy for your children. The key advantage here is the ability to make very long-term investments, which should yield significantly higher returns.
