Today, for once, I'd like to talk about finance and Hive income optimization. This thought came to me after @itharagaian asked on @laruche's Discord (FR) if it wasn't possible to offer RC for rent to make a small passive income for his community. It turns out that this is technically possible since hive-engine has implemented a rental market for BEE, HP, and RC similar to what you can find on Dlease. So the question is legitimate, and it implies another one: what can be gained by borrowing RC?
Indeed, until now, RC are not considered a valuable resource. If you ask around, you will probably find some kind souls willing to delegate them for free.
This is due to the fact that the market for borrowing/lending RC is non-existent. But that doesn't mean that RCs are worthless, it just means that their value has not yet been discovered!
So let's try to answer the question that interests everyone: how can we make the most of our surplus RC without renting them?
In this reflection, we will start from the fact that we need RC either to post and participate in discussions on Hive or to feed a game bot, for example, one that would rent your Splinterlands cards xD.
And if you don't use Hive-based services, you don't need RC, and it will be more profitable to delegate your HP to enjoy the curation gains.
So, the first reason would be the optimization of curation gains. Indeed, if you keep HP only to have enough RC to participate in the Hive ecosystem, you will have to do manual curation to have a return on those HP. However, it is almost impossible to maximize your curation gains by doing it by hand.
This is exactly where borrowing from RC will benefit you!
Delegate your HP to @ecency for example, who will return 100% of the curation gains they make with your HP and borrow just the number of RC you need on a daily basis!
By doing so, you will earn more curation gains than you would manually, and in liquid Hive! It's just a matter of being careful that the added value isn't entirely eaten up by RC rental fees, but since there's far more RC supply than demand, that shouldn't be a problem.
But the best part is that there are ways to earn more than our HP allows. In fact, by delegating to @leo.voter, it is possible to earn up to 16% APR in LEO! (Figures seen on hive.stats, the reality is a bit lower, as it depends on the LEO/HIVE price)
Using the same method as before, you can therefore benefit from the 16% return on your HP without it impacting your ability to interact with other users on Hive!
I can see endless combos in the same style, and I think you can too! Everyone has their own little secret tricks so I won't go much further.
In summary, there is value for active accounts on Hive to borrow low-cost RC to maximize their curation gains. There is also an interest in large curation accounts that hardly publish to rent out RC to increase their earnings!
If you are a curation account manager, don't hesitate to offer RC for rent! Also, please don't forget to include small quantities too, not everyone needs 1000HP in RC equivalent xD.
Thanks for reading all the way through, and as always, feel free to leave a comment!
How are HP and RC related?

Well, actually HP do not exist, they only serve as a simplification of the complex system that Hive blockchain is.
Under HP there are VESTS. Basically, by powering up you exchange HIVE for VESTS, and the amount of VESTS you own represent the % of the network that you own. By owning a part of the Hive blockchain (in other words, owning VESTS), you are entitled various benefits.
One of them is the ability to use the blockchain (posting, voting, ...).
When owning VESTS, you are allocated a given amount of RC (Ressource Credits, ratio RC/VEST fixed by the blockchain). These RC are used as "gas" on Hive blockchain so you have to spend them to record data in the blocks.
The main difference between ETH gas system and the one on Hive is that on Hive you receive a constant stream of RC (each block actually). The amount of RC you receive each block is again depending on the mount of VESTS you own.
At the moment and if my memory is correct, you get around 1 million RC per HP.
I hope it answers your question!
Thanks a lot for a very thorough explanation.

Excellent friends, well done, greetings
Thanks a lot!
This will become something that has a market in the future.
We will see a market developed around RC delegation. It is interesting to see who will set it up in a big way.

I think so as well. RC is basically gas, and we all see how it can become precious once the Blockchain is under heavy use!

There are indeed a number of ways to put our unused HP into good use to generate some passive income from them. Delegating to Ecency is the best for me because the payout is in liquid Hive.
But you didn't spill out the whole bag lol. What secret other ways are there?
Haha thanks 😂
Indeed, I feel getting 100% of your curation gains in liquid hive very attractive as well.
As for the other use cases I can think of, there is for example a delegation to @steembasicincome.
I don't know if you are familiar with the HSBI system but to summarize, when you delegate HP to them, you have a reward counter that increases in the background and this reward is "sent" to you when you make a post. This system has the advantage that the reward counter keeps increasing even if you do not post.
As for other uses, I will have to do more research and calculations 😁!
You are a great developer
Thanks but I didn't build any dapp at the moment. I should definitely learn tho

I would like to rent my rc I dont use it all, only a part
Keep an eye on https://hive-engine.com/lease (select RC), and when you see a demand for a RC lease just click on the fill button!
However, such demand are rare as the RC renting market is not developed yet.
