Windows 10 going to reach end of life soon

I have two laptops with me. One I recently bought came with Windows 11, and another is an old laptop that has Windows 10. There is no upgrade available for the old laptop because the processor is not supported for an automatic upgrade to Windows 11. This is a very sad thing because I keep getting notices saying that Windows 10 is soon going to reach end-of-life, and there will be no security updates after that.

I moved most of my activities to my new laptop, where Windows 11 is already present, and it's all good. However, I used to have the old laptop for some projects, and there are still dependencies on my old laptop. I saw a few videos on YouTube from many vloggers who have two PC where one they use for coding and another they use for gaming. I thought maybe I could convert my old laptop to a gaming device. Currently, I don't find enough time for playing games, but I want to get back to gaming anyway.

I'm planning to scrap Windows 10 on the old laptop and do a fresh install of Ubuntu and install Steam on Ubuntu to play the games. I have seen that Ubuntu is compatible with Steam, and I have used that in the past too. There are a few games that I already bought on Steam but never played. Every time I see that, I feel very bad for spending a lot of money but not making use of it. I wish I could plan my work well so that I can focus on both gaming as well as my regular coding work. These days that's how I plan my work and movie/web series watching time.

I feel that it is lame for Microsoft to not give support for the old processors. There is a forked version of Windows 11 that can be installed and used, but Microsoft does not guarantee that to work properly, and we might end up with having problems with that. Continuing to use Windows 10 may not be an option anymore.

I only have a netbook since 2017 and it's Windows 10, that sign is haunting me for a while now 🙃.

I literally only use it for the basic, only internet and Zoom Meetings. After October is the system going to be obsolete for that too? Is it very urgent for me to think about buying a new one before that time? It would be a shame, on the outside my PC looks like new, it just doesn't work unplugged due all its years and a year and a half ago I put a new solid disk in it, so it works excellent :(

I think you can continue using it as long as you want but you can also consider installing some other linux based OS if you want.

It's frustrating when hardware limitations hinder software support, but at least it's nice to know you’re finding creative solutions.

With time, changes are happening. SSD cards have come and more modern things are coming. So it will happen that old things will not stop working, but we will not be able to install new things there. So we will have to abandon the old things and buy new things so that we can use modern functions.

I had the same problem, but I just switched to Chrome OS a few days ago and I like it better than Windows 10.

Oh then I will probably give it a try too.

I really have this sure confidence that window 11 will definitely perform very well as it is just a matter of time

Windows keep repeating the same thing
The difference between Windows10 and 11 won’t be that much
