We all know that India is a country with more bright sunshine throughout the year. Harnessing energy from the Sun is a wise thing to do. There are countries that try to utilize solar panels to generate energy from the little sun they receive, but India is not advanced enough in harnessing the Sun's energy to power our country. The main reason can be that we don't have that big a dependency on an alternative source of energy. The fossil fuels that we are using right now are sufficient to produce energy, and they say that the Lignite we have in our place is sufficient for another 100 years.
But globally, there is a push towards exploring alternative sources of energy, which includes both solar as well as wind energy. The problem associated with wind energy is that the cost is slightly elevated to set up, and the output is also not that great. At the same time, there are also major innovations going on in making wind energy production more efficient. Noise is a big problem when it comes to wind energy, and migratory birds also get affected because of this.
The idea is to protect the water bodies and at the same time make use of the water bodies to create floating solar panels that can save both water and at the same time produce energy. There are several advantages in this setup, and the first advantage is that it prevents water from evaporating. Our lakes usually dry up during the summer season, and if we take this effort, the drying part can be prolonged, though we cannot guarantee that the water will always be there in the water body.
Currently, the water bodies are covered with a weed called Pontederia crassipes which is also called water hyacinth locally. If we don't make use of the water, the water bodies are covered with this weed, and finally it speeds up the drying capacity of water. Currently, there is no usecase available for this week to make use of. Some people are trying to create paper using this, but it can take some time to revolutionize, I think.
By introducing floating solar panels in these water bodies, it not only prevents water from drying but at the same time, even if the lake is completely dried out, there will be an usecase to produce electricity. This becomes a dual advantage. I think the government should start taking some initiatives to get this project completed.

Solar power tech needs a serious update. I inquired about the Solar power installation for the home. Just to cover the roof, the cost was around 1.2L along with the subsidy. And that too with massive maintenance. Now, one can expect the cost of such a project to be very high and with the current state of the government and authorities. It's not a productive project unless the cost of the product itself is brought down; it's not going to bear any positive results. I am not even sure that the solar farms that are installed in my hometown are generating enough power to serve the energy demand of a PINCODE, let alone an entire city..
For real this is such a smart idea. Using water bodies for solar panels could save water and produce clean energy at the same time. It looks to me like a win win for both the environment and renewable energy development

My only concern would be that the wiring would need to be very well maintained. Solar panels produce dangerous levels of DC current, which could be hazardous to aquatic life and people servicing the panels. It's doable, but would likely be more costly to operate safely than rooftop solar panels.
Nature has it way add positively adding to the environment. Nothing bad in taking advantage of the excessive sun in the environment. Urbanization will continue to increase demand for energy
