Copycat (1995)

As I was looking for some psychological thrillers to watch some time ago (it was probably a couple of months back), I stumbled upon this movie from 1995 called Copycat. The first thing I thought was my age when this movie was released. hahah

Of course, I wasn't into crime mysteries or psychological thrillers when I was four years old. However, time passed, and my interests changed. And now, 30 years after the release of this movie, I'm more than ready (even excited) to watch it.

Now, allow me to tell you about it.

The movie started with a criminal psychologist named Helen giving a lecture about serial killers to students at a university. She's a well-known expert in her field, especially in the behavior of serial killers.

However, something horrible happened to her that day. After the lecture, she was attacked by one of her subjects who escaped prison. He killed the police officer who was with her, but ended up in prison when backup arrived.

Although her life was spared, the frightening experience resulted in Helen becoming agoraphobic. She refused to go out of her apartment and just lived there, continuing her life using her computer with the help of her friend.

However, the appearance of a copycat serial killer appeared and started to threaten her life. Because of this, she ended up joining forces with two detectives who were on the hunt for the copycat serial killer.

Will they succeed? It's for you to find out! ^^

The movie was actually better than I expected. I thought it would be like a documentary style, but it wasn't. And I guess I was able to appreciate it more because I'm aware of some of the stories mentioned in the story, particularly those of some famous serial killers.

I'm interested in criminal psychology, so I tend to watch true crime documentaries or listen to some podcasts online.

I also found it fun predicting who the killer was, or what his next move would be. Of course, I could enjoy it since it's fiction, but the thought of these things happening in real life is terrifying.

The serial killers the culprit in the movie copied are all real. Though some facts were changed in the movie, but still, this thought made me realize once again that reality is much more frightening than fiction.

As for the movie, it was entertaining and a little frustrating to watch. I guess it's common when watching movies of this genre. There will always be stupid characters who make stupid decisions. hahah But then again, when someone is already in a state of panic, they won't be able to think clearly and often end up choosing the least plausible thing. XD

The actors were really good, though. I especially like the guy who played Daryll. He's the person who caused Helen her phobia. He's just so effective that he looks more like a serial killer than the actual one. haha His acting is really convincing.

Overall, it was a good movie, especially if you're into such a genre and topic. I wonder if there were similar movies in the past. I'm now interested in watching older movies after checking this. I've missed a lot of classic films (especially horror and psychological ones). So, I'll check them in the days to come.

I'll end this post here. Thanks for reading this post, and see you around! (^^,)/

I remember this one, it was the last movie I saw in theaters before I went off to Marine Boot (I made it to 2 weeks of graduation before being separated).

I don't remember a lot about it but I do remember how it me feel. Uneasy does not start to describe it.

Great review, thank you for posting it.

I need to rewatch this one sooner than later. I have it on DVD here somewhere (life of a hoarder, I mean, reseller that sells stuff slowly).

Thank you so much... :)
Ohh... please do. I wonder if you'd think differently about the movie after rewatching it years later. ^^
Have a good one! :D
