Early in the morning, just as the first light touched the sky, my three-year-old daughter woke up at 5:30 am. It had been seven days since we last stayed at our farmhouse, so the place was a bit messy and needed a good cleaning. The night before, I told her that we would wake up early to tidy things up. I didn’t expect her to remember but she did and she was the first one awake smiling and ready to help.

After drinking her milk, she immediately joined me in the kitchen. She wanted to help prepare breakfast. With her tiny hands, she started sorting the vegetables and the spices we could use for cooking. She always curious and excited to learn, especially when it comes to food. She even told me that she wanted to cook by herself one day. Seeing her eagerness makes my heart melt because at such a young age she already loves doing things that bring the family together.

After our cooking time she took the broo, and started sweeping the floor, trying her best to copy how I do it. Then, she went to our bedroom and fixed the pillows on the bed, arranging the, neatly in her own little way. These simple acts may seem small but for me they mean a lot. Every little thing she does shows her growing sense of responsibility and independence. It makes me realize that children naturally learn from what they see. When we involve them in daily routines, we’re not only teaching them chores, we’re helping them understand love, care and teamwork.

One thing I love most about my daughter is that she enjoys eating vegetables. That’s why I make sure we always have something fresh to harvest from our small garden every day. Whether it’s okra, eggplant or malunggay she loves seeing the plants grow and picking them herself. It has become part of our daily bonding. Through this, she learns where our food comes from and why it’s important to take care of nature.
Every time we do something together, whether cleaning, cooking or gardening I always explain why we are doing it. I believe that when children understand the purpose behind an activity, they appreciate it more and develop good habits early on. It’s not just about finishing the task. It’s about teaching her values like discipline, love for nature and helping others.

As a mother, moments like these remind me that teaching doesn’t always happen in classrooms. Sometimes, the best lessons are learned a home through small tasks and shared experiences. My daughter may be little, buts he already teaches me so much about joy and gratitude.
