A Splash of Love: Finding Balance Between Work and Motherhood and the Importance of Small Rewards in Parenting

Hello to all the wonderful people of the @motherhood community! I hope everyone is doing great. Today, I love to share a piece of my heart, a story about work, motherhood and finding joy in little splashes of time with my daughter.

Every time I have an appointment or attend a celebration like a wedding or party, and there’s a swimming pool at the venue, I always make sure to bring my daughters swimsuit. Its my little way of making her day special, a chance for her to swim, laugh and simple enjoy being a child. Seeing her excitement as she dips into the water makes me realize how important it is to let her experience life outside of my busy work schedule.

Most of the time, my work keeps me busy. As an online freelancer, my laptop and headset often take up much of my attention. My daughter often stays beside me, quietly playing with her toys or drawing on a piece of paper. while I finish my tasks. There are moments when she calls for me, eager to show her small achievements, may be a new drawing, a little dance or a story she wants to tell. But sometimes, I have to say, “Please Wait, Mommy’s working.” Those words always come with a little pinch in my heart and where the guilt hits hardest.

That’s why I treasure moments like these, when I can take her swimming or to a nearby park afterward. Seeing her play with others kids, gaining confidence and laughing freely reminds me why I’m working so hard. Its not just about providing for her needs but also giving her the chance to experience joy, confidence and childhood in its purest form.
After swimming and playing, she often asks for a simple treat, her favorite halo halo. Its her little reward and for me, its more than just a dessert. It’s a symbol of her patience and her good behavior, and our bond as a mother and daughter.

I’m truly blessed to have a daughter who listens, understands, listens and loves me despite my busy days. She inspires me to keep going, to work harder, and to be more present whenever I can. And as a mom, I’m learning that sometimes, love doesn’t always come in big moments, its in the small, shared laughter, splashes in the pool and the quite walks home after a fun day together.

Rewards for me like these are important because they remind children that good behavior and patience are valued. Simple joys like swimming, eating and playing build happy memories, strengthen our bond and teach her that love and effort always matter most.
