Before I travelled to Graz, I visited Erfurt./ Bevor ich nach Graz fuhr, besuchte ich Erfurt.

Hello lovelies on this beautiful Sunday! As I had so much to do when I got back from Graz, I'd like to catch up on a few moments to keep as memories and tell you about my journey to Erfurt. I stopped there for a day so that I didn't have to drive for 16 hours straight.
I had the city of Erfurt in my head for years because the zoo sold me peacock feathers at cost price for my fashion show project and I always had fond memories of the city as a result. As I needed 300 feathers, it would not have been possible to realise the project at two euros per piece with the offers from other zoos. But Erfurt made it possible and the feathers went down really well at the fashion show. I have already written an article about this on my blog.Fairytale Magic

I was now travelling for the first time to the city that made this wonderful project possible for me. The journey there was very pleasant: everything went according to plan and the five-hour drive was made even more enjoyable by a great travelling companion. She even had dog treats with her, so my little Chihuahua girl was suddenly as tame as a lamb.

When I arrived in Erfurt, I received a warm welcome and was first shown to my accommodation. I was then shown around Erfurt city centre. As I live in a mini-village, it was of course a completely different city centre. You could immediately recognise the ancient splendour of the buildings that are part of the historic part of the city. Erfurt Cathedral and the town hall, for example. The latter now shines in neo-Gothic splendour, as the old Gothic building unfortunately no longer exists.

It is an interesting fact that the Goths were already Arian Christians before the Anglican Church emerged. The reformer Martin Luther also has his place in this town hall: a painting by Johann Peter Theodor Janssen adorns the banqueting hall and shows the history of Erfurt and Martin Luther. Unfortunately, I was unable to visit the hall.
In case many people don't know: I am a committed Christian, and for me Martin Luther is the milestone of the Reformation. He reminded people that it is not by works but by faith in Jesus Christ alone that one is saved by God through grace. That God turned the wisdom of the world into foolishness and that it pleased him to give his grace to those who believe through faith in his Son - not through people who claim to be saints and possess great power, as the Pharisees once did. This meant that some organisations could no longer earn money to sell indulgences and so lost power - so the Jesuits were founded. I'm not going to talk about that, because it's a bottomless pit.

History has become my great passion, because understanding the past has given me a glimpse into the future. As it is written: ‘There is nothing new under God's sun.’ And so it is.
But now I will take you on a historical excursion to the little Venice of Erfurt. I particularly liked this place - a river landscape adorned with dense greenery that runs through the city. The Gera branches off here several times and probably flows back together again, where it gets really wild. This neighbourhood, however, appears calm and serene. Small footbridges by the houses invited visitors to simply dip their feet in. Numerous people gathered on the banks to sit together in a cosy atmosphere and enjoy an ice cream. I took the opportunity to give my dog a taste of the Venetian neighbourhood's waterfront. Apparently he liked it as much as I did.

As time was pressing and we had to leave early for Graz, we had a delicious dinner of pizza and salad. By then the day had already come to an end in the late evening hours.

At this point, I would like to mention the mini watermelon we bought in Erfurt. We really wanted to snack on watermelon, but the right opportunity never presented itself. Fortunately, it remained intact and travelled with us to Graz, where there was again no opportunity to eat it. So it came back to Germany and was eventually turned into sorbet. How fortunate that it didn't go bad the whole time - it probably reached its peak of ripeness. LOL
I actually wanted to dedicate a separate account to it, but it wouldn't have been nice to see it rotting at some point. The sorbet was very, very tasty, and so my experience of Erfurt memories draws to a close.

I hope you were able to take something away from my article. Thank you for reading and for your support, and see you next time!

Erfurt for peacock feathers? 🦚 Nice pre-Graz stop, sounds like a fun trip! ✨

Yes, the zoo in Erfurt agreed to sell them to me at cost price, otherwise it would have been so expensive that I wouldn't have been able to realise my project.
I was very happy to take a break in Erfurt and I find the city really beautiful, just like Graz, although Graz has really gone one better in terms of historical values.
Thank you for reading my post.
