Cricket Sticks & Stumps in Dunnikier country park in Kirkcaldy Scotland

Dunnikier Country Park 🏴󠁧󠁒󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Today we are finishing the second part of our trip to Dunnikier Country Park in the north of Kirkcaldy. You can catch the first part of our trip in Dunnikier Country Park in Kirkcaldy Scotland amid glorious spring sunshine.

As a refresher or for new readers today, you can see from the worldmappin map below, that Dunnikier Park is sandwiched between two industrial estates, namely Dunnikier Estate and Mitchelson Industrial Estate.

image.png

You might remember this was the park of the hotel that was an old country home...

Dunnikier Park in spring (1).png

Last time we left with us about to go through this gate, or is it a portal to the other side?

Our starting point for today

image.png

image.png

Rabbits and Myxomatosis

I was pleasantly surprised to see a couple of rabbits darting across the field in front of me, with their fluffy butts running under the hedge which you can see below.

image.png

Recently I read about Animal welfare officers have had to put down rabbits after an outbreak of myxomatosis at Dunnikier Country Park in Kirkcaldy

Myxomatosis is a shitty disease Myxomatosis that affects rabbits.

It's transmitted mainly through insects like mosquitoes and fleas, as well as from direct contact, the good news is that it only affects rabbits and cannot be passed to other animals or humans.

If you do see a rabbit with Myxomatosis do not touch it, but call your animal control people and keep your dogs away. They lose their speed and agility so often dogs can catch them easily and then it gets messy.

image.png

What's across the hedge, can you guess?

image.png

Okay okay, if you said a wee wall, then give yourself a pat on the back, but if you are a pedant... then what is across the wee wall?

Cricket Anyone?

image.png

I am sure that the cricket fans amongst recognise the tell tale shape of a cricket wicket pitch.

It looks some seeding of the grass might have just happened as the birds are busy pecking away!

Dunnikier Cricket Club

Well the screens have seen better days and I guess there is not much of a clubhouse!

image.png

image.png

Walls everywhere

There seem to be walls all over the place around the cricket ground

Not too mention there were trees everywhere, even on the ground as this shadow shows!

image.png

image.png

Sticks and dogs

Seeing these two sticks on the path, you know they had been dropped by a dog!

image.png

Oh look a signpost!

image.png

We are here....

image.png

image.png

My favourite season ~ Sprummer!

Sprummer, have you heard of it?

I call the time when Spring and Summer overlap as Sprummer...

The trees are not fully developed as they are in summer.

Yes it's my favourite season, you see all the trees in their natural beauty not camouflaged with leaves etc...

Animals climbing the tree...

So you see them?

One on each side of the tree!

image.png

image.png

Forestry management

You see chopped down in the parks quite often in spring.

image.png

It can be as a result of high winds rendering limbs and branches or even whole trees unsafe.

Or a disease or infection might necessitate the felling.

image.png

Path choices

The great thing about Sprummer is that there are gaps in the trees so you can see the whole scenery.

image.png

Can you guess the type of bird nests?

image.png

Nature never gives up

image.png

Even when struck down she still pushes to survive and thrive...

image.png

A gate? A portal?

All of a sudden this gate appeared (actually I am taking this shot from the other side of the park..)

image.png

And it led to a parkful of homes!

So that was yet another entrance to the park, but it wasn't finished yet!

image.png

Further along the road towards the supermarket where I was heading was this...

image.png

Another fluffing entrance!

image.png

National Lottery funding

Did you see this plaque on the left pillar?

I do love seeing physical things that our moneywe spend buying lottery tickets goes to!

image.png

I like the barrier. I think in the first part of this post series I said about quad bikes and cars and trucks eating up the grass with donut rings etc, so it is good they have some barriers!

image.png

Cyclists ~ Ding your fluffing bell!

image.png

Did you see the wee creature by the base of the pole...

It was this wee birdie!

image.png

This part has taken quite a while to publish as we have now moved out of Sprummer and into Summer, but I hope you enjoyed it!

Superb weather for a walk around the park, wooded area with some wildlife to enjoy along the way.

Substantial area to enjoy your Sprummer stroll, refreshing!

It was gorgeous day and plenty to see.

I never really imagined that they had trailer parks outside the US. That's quite interesting. The old estate looks amazing and reminds me of some of the old mansions on the east coast of the US.

0.00062756 BEE

Yeah I think you call them modular homes. But there are mobile homes especially at holiday sites.
It does have an old mansion feel to it.

0.00093795 BEE

That is too crazy. Like I said, I never would have guessed they have them over there like they do here.

What get my attention about your favorite season SPRUMMER. I thought you misspelled it, but later on I understand. Super nice weather and fun to have walking or running on this kind of place. I love also the picture of animals comouflage the tree. It catches the attention and makes me look interesting. Overall amazing photos in the park. No wonder.

Thank you and I am glad you saw sprummer, you know it shows you read the post!
Have you ever heard of it before? I am not sure if it really exists or if I made it up.
Thank you and I am glad you like the park and pictures.

You took lovely photos @tengolotodo .. You really notice such tiny details.. It was fun reading about your walk through the park.. what excites me most are the new words I've learned from you today 🀣... from Myxomatosis, sprummer and the wee birdie.. πŸ˜†
I've never heard of a "wee birdie", so I thought it was something else.. πŸ˜†

0.00000000 BEE

Hehe well I am not sure that sprummer is a word, or just one that I made up🀣.
Up here in Scotland we say wee all the time.
Glad you enjoyed the walk and the post.

It was a long ride, Ed! The weather was ideal for doing this walk and taking pictures. I had never read about myxomatosis. When I was 15, I had a rabbit, Candy, but it died of poisoning. I did read that some people can get spots on their skin from carrying rabbits, but I don't know if that is true. A big hug for you πŸ«‚

0.00000000 BEE

Did you take Candy to see Jenny?
Yes it is really the wild rabbits, if your dog can catch them, then they probably are infected!
Thank you Nancy and it was a fun walk in the sun,I think that was the hottest day of the year and it was a month ago lol. So much for our summer!

0.00000000 BEE

Wow this place is so nice. I really wanted to visit Scotland, and I hope my dream will come true.

0.00000000 BEE

You never know Rose your dream might come true one day :)

Very nicely done, those were some great pictures you took on the adventure through the park. That really is a nice looking place, and very well kept. It's always fun to see some fluffy creatures hopping around in those kind of places. Too bad about that nasty disease they are catching, but I guess putting them down is the humane thing to do and prevent the spread to the other rabbits.

I like the fact that they put barriers out like that as well to keep out motorized vehicles. I found the bicyclist sign kind of funny, use your bell... What if I don't have one?....

Great job!

0.00000000 BEE

lol do you know that if you have a bike you are supposed to have a bell. I am sure that used to be in the Highway code! Now I am curious I need to find out lol.

Yeah it is another great park, no water feature which means I don't go there often at all!

You really brought the place to life with your vivid storytelling and sprinkles of humor! Sprummer, what a fun word! I love how you combined spring and summer hehe πŸ˜… It’s sad to hear about the rabbits and myxomatosis, but I’m glad you included that important info.

0.00000000 BEE

Sprummer hehe I am glad you like it, you see you never know what you might learn from me!

0.00000000 BEE

What I know is that it's a lot of fun to accompany you on this walk, you always see many clever analogies... Sprummer is a word I like. It sounds like a mouthful of sandwich, beer and a giggle that you want to contain.

Poor rabbits.

0.00000000 BEE

Thanks Nani and I shall be watching to see if you ever have and Sprummer weather.

I like posts to be how I would like them to be. Which is why I like yours, and slapped wrists on me as I have not come and seen you more often!

0.00000000 BEE

No self-inflicted slaps, please... 😁 - better use a sword. 🀣
