The temperature in Beijing has dropped to the sub-zero level as it is already the mid of the January, which is the coldest month in this northern hemisphere of the earth. As a netizen of the tropical region, such freezing cold is always so irritating for me, but in this freezing cold, I can also enjoy some winter activities that were like a dream when I was in my home country, and watch such freezing winter vibes only in the movies and on television. There are several rivers around the area where I am living in the Huairou district, and the Qihe River is one of them, which is about 2 kilometres away from my dormitory. Recently, I had a great experience walking on the riverbed as the river is now completely frozen with the freezing cold in this northern region of the Beijing Municipality.
The river is not so far and so I have visited the area by walking and have a round to a vast area where I have passed a significant portion of the route near the riverside area. There are not so many residential areas, but I saw some areas very far from the destination where I was walking on the frozen river bed. Those far areas were very active with many people doing different activities on the river bed, as those areas of the river are relatively less deep, and the entire water is frozen to that location in my previous experience.

But the area where I was walking on the frozen river, that area is full of other activities that attracted me a lot, and I spent some time there exploring the activities. The activity of fishing in a frozen river is really a new thing for me, as I have not seen that in my eyes, as most of the frozen lakes that I have explored, the fishing and other activities were forbidden due to the excessive depth and underlying security concerns.
But this part of the river is not so dangerous as the depth of the river is not comparable with the depth of the lakes, which are too high and risky to face any accidental occurrences. But here the water depth is not so heavy, and the underwater soil is clearly visible, which is a positive thing to face any unwanted accidental scenarios without much complexity. So, people were fishing without much concern and without any issues from the police nearby, in my observation.

I have seen many people fishing on the river bed as it is completely frozen, but sometimes I was afraid as the ice under my feet was clear and I could see the underwater river bed, which is not an ordinary thing for me to explore. The people who were fishing were very silent, and they dug on the ice to bring the water surface to place their fishing hook. For digging the hole in the ice surface, they used a strong rod-type shovel to make the hole faster without damaging the surface.
Due to the digging here and there, I found some cracks in the frozen ice which were clearly visible on the ice, and I was afraid of that area as it can be broken and I could fall into the water, which is normally so cold, and cause severe illness. Also, it was for the first time for me to walk on the riverbed and the cracks were really frightening for me. But I have enjoyed my walking their to my full. It was a great, memorable day for me to enjoy such a great walk on the frozen river.

I hope you enjoy my photos of the beautiful frozen rivers and their surrounding views in the Huairou district, which is a close place to my living area, with natural scenes and bright sunny surroundings in the wintertime. The view is marvellous from every angle, with the clean sky and the faded colour of the trees, grasses and plants in the river bank areas. The view is beautiful from every angle, with the colour of the trees and grass, and with eye-catching soothing beauty in such weather. Thanks a lot for your time and attention. I will catch up with you at the next one.
Wishing you a good day!
I took all the photos, and these are my own property.

Thanks!
Such a cool experience, your photos make the frozen river in Beijing feel calm and beautiful, and I am glad you stayed careful around the cracks.
Yeah, the surrounding of this part of the city is really so peaceful! I had no choice as I have very limited knowledge about the ice ghickness on the river water sutface and the depth of the river in that part is risky.

Honestly, I'd feel a little scared walking around there, but that's just me 😅 However, it's a beautiful place and you've gotten some great shots :)

Yeah, it was scaring walk for me too when I saw beneath the ice! But the surrounding beauty helps me to forget about it but I could not walk for a long as the craks due to digging the hole was more scary and I left after sometime. Thanks for stopping by!
I wonder, aren't they afraid of the ice falling in and sinking on the frozen water? but i have never felt winter :(
I think they have the real experience of doing so for long time and they can guess the thickness of the ice on the river surface and act accordingly. That's why they were digging hole for fishing but I was feeling so scary there! Thanks for stopping by!
