Viewing the Vast Lake of Miyun City from the Mountain Peak

It was mid-April, a time when the beauty of spring is visible all across Beijing. As always, I make it a point to visit the city's beautiful spots during this season, trying to make the best use of every holiday and weekend. Following this routine, I visited a scenic spot in Miyun—a district neighboring Huairou—where the mountain peak offers a view of the vast expanse of water known as the Miyun Reservoir.

I got ready in the morning, prepared my bicycle, and set out from the institute around 12:00 PM, after lunch. The scenic spot is known as 'MiyunShuiku Guan Jing Tai' (Miyun Reservoir Viewpoint). It is located more than 30 kilometers away from where I live. Since the site is situated near a mountain village, I found it a bit difficult to locate. It is not a particularly popular destination, largely because it is quite far from both downtown Beijing and the Miyun city center.

Even upon arriving at the gate of the 'Miyun Reservoir Viewpoint,' it didn't seem like a major tourist attraction; there was hardly any crowd, and the ticket counter was quiet. The entrance fee was 30 RMB. However, there was an interesting perk: I was told that if I returned the ticket upon leaving, I would receive a large apple as a gift. True to their word, they gave me an apple—a treat that felt incredibly satisfying after the long and tiring mountain hike.

Initially, upon entering the scenic spot, it didn't strike me as an exceptional place for hiking, as the interior seemed rather plain and small. However, I soon discovered the entrance to the hiking trail. There was a checkpoint there, and carrying lighters or anything capable of igniting a fire was strictly prohibited.

After cycling over 30 kilometers, I arrived there around 2:30 PM and began my hike. The entire path was constructed with wooden stairs, making the hiking experience much easier. I thoroughly enjoyed the route, and the surrounding scenery was simply extraordinary. I love the lush green beauty of the mountains, and this place was absolutely perfect.

The surroundings looked even more beautiful because the weather was clear, and everything appeared captivating in the bright sunlight. However, distant mountains were slightly hazy due to a light mist. The view of the surrounding villages from the mountain peak was truly magnificent.

I took brief one- or two-minute breaks at various points along the way, as climbing the mountain continuously is quite strenuous. After about two hours, I reached the final peak; it was late afternoon by then. I marveled at the natural beauty around me. A large section of the Miyun Reservoir was clearly visible from there—a truly spectacular sight.
