Celebrating Eid at Asia’s Biggest Eidgah.

Gor-e-Shaheed Eidgah Maidan, Dinajpur, Bangladesh. It is in the northern part of Bangladesh. It is not a ordinary Eid prayer ground. This Eidgah Maidan one of the largest not just in the country but even in Asia. It is roughly 22 acres, large enough for hundreds of thousands of people to pray simultaneously. Every year, one of the largest Eid gatherings in Asia is held here. The field was built around the year 1950. Now it is a source of religious and cultural pride for the people of Dinajpur.

March 31, 2025. My own special day. Eid-ul-Fitr this year felt different for me. For the first time, I prayed Eid salah at the Gor-e-Shaheed Eidgah Maidan. Praying with more than thousands of people together was a touching and unforgettable experience.

We left our home at around 8 in the morning in our private car. The Eidgah field is about 24 kilometers away from our house. We started a bit early to make sure we reached there on time. We reached the Eidgah Maidan around 8:45 AM. Then imran vai parked our car.

The field was surrounded with bamboo and rope, and there were specific gates for entering. We went inside through one of the gates and we walked straight into the field.

With me were Nazim Bhaiya, Imran Bhaiya, my nephew Afif,little Fardin, and two more people. We all picked a spot then laid out our prayer mats, and sat down.

The field was clean, organized, and the weather was good as well. Police, RAB and other forces were on guard to maintain security. There was few tall watchtower in the middle of the field, and drones were used to keep watch all the time.

The Eid prayer began at 9 AM sharp. After the Maulana recited from the Qur’an, he led us in prayer. Seeing lots of people praying together was so emotional that it bring tears to our eyes.

It’s hard to describe the feeling—hearing the Takbir all around, everyone making dua together, the calm and peaceful atmosphere—it all gave a very special spiritual feeling.

After the prayer, we came out and walked around a little. For Afif and Fardin, I bought two beautiful balloons. Just their happy faces made me really joyful.

After spending some time, we started our journey back home. On the way, we stopped for a short tea break. We reached home around 11 AM.

This Eid is always going to be one of the best experiences in my life. Participating in such a huge Eid gathering and performing my prayer in the Gor-e-Shaheed Eidgah Maidan — everything gave me a deep feeling of peace and happiness.
