USA - Enjoying The Science And Hollywood Views At Griffith Observatory

20180501_122019.jpg

Hello there!

Having completed my earlier travel posts on several interesting countries, such as Japan (Tokyo, Osaka and Hokkaido), Maldives, Indonesia (Bali and Yogyakarta), I was going through my past travels to see which would be the next interesting country or city to share, and I finally shortlisted New York, USA!

As you would have known from my past posts, my first trip to USA was a work trip to New York. Because I only had two days for sightseeing, I wrote about how I had to speed run through some of the major attractions in New York. You can read all about them here:

Several years later, I actually managed to visit USA again, and this time, it was for a holiday to the West Coast of USA and because the trip spanned across two weeks, there's definitely lots to unpack and share so sit back, and enjoy the sharings! You can read the earlier posts over here:

There's so many stuff to visit in Los Angeles, and this time, we headed to Griffith Observatory! There were showers on our way there and I was glad the rain subsided a lot when we reached there.

I must say that the design of the observatory was pretty cool!

This was a sundial outside the building. Because the sky was cloudy, there was no way to tell if this was actually working. Am not sure how many people (especially the younger ones) actually know what a sundial does. Hehe!

This was the Astronomers Monument.

According to Wikipedia, The Astronomers Monument pays homage to six of the greatest astronomers of all time:

Hipparchus (fl. 150 BC), Nicolaus Copernicus (1473–1543), Galileo Galilei (1564–1642), Johannes Kepler (1571–1630), Isaac Newton (1642–1727), William Herschel (1738–1822).

Alright it's time to head in!

20180501_122019.jpg

There were some exhibits on the solar system and it brought back memories of my science lesson in primary school.

There's another exhibit called the Foucault Pendulum. This is the explanation...

20180501_122746.jpg

...And this is the pendulum in action...

20180501_122721.jpg

...And it's suspended from the ceiling.. The ceiling looked very beautiful too!

After looking through the exhibits, we headed out to the back end of the observatory, and we were treated to spectacular views of the city! Simply WOW!

I think the shower earlier actually contributed to the foggy mist in the background and it gave a different dimension to the view!

And of course, if you ever visit the Griffith Observatory, there is a must see! The famous HOLLYWOOD words can be clearly seen from here at this height!

A more zoomed out view of the surroundings!

One last photo of this wonderful place before we left!

All in all, it was an interesting combination to visit an observation and learn about science, and at the same time, enjoy these views of the city. Even though I am not really an academic or a museum person, I would still recommend this attraction for visitors to soak into the atmosphere and to enjoy the vantage point as well.

So that's all I have today! Have you been to Los Angeles or Griffith Observatory? Let me know in the comments below!

Finally, thanks for reading my post in the community under World Map Pin!

Oh, so you visited the USA twice? Lucky you! I have "almost" visited once, when I was planning to go to the HiveFest in Mexico... hahahahah... I hope I will have another chance in the future...

Btw, when I saw the thumbnail, I thought that was a photo of the White House, but visiting the observatory is much cooler! I had no idea about Foucault Pendulum, so it was a nice lesson to add another argument against the Flat Earthers... 😂

Thanks for sharing!
