Mexico - We Scaled The Pyramid Of The Sun

Hello there!

After a short break and consolidating my first edition of my Travel Diaries, which included my travel posts to 14 different countries, here's kickstarting my second edition of Travel Diaries! For those who are keen to read my the first edition, you can find them here.

I am actually quite excited to start this new country and new series of posts, because it's something that I wanted to do for quite some time, but I needed some time to tidy up my photos and organise my storytelling and places. And this new country is Mexico!

Back in 2009, I had the opportunity to go for a summer exchange programme to spend 7 weeks studying in an university in Queretaro, a small city in Mexico and that was one of my more memorable parts of my life! Going halfway across the globe from Asia, I didn't know much about Mexico so I went there with my eyes wide open, and ready to embrace the different cultures and experiences.

A few months before the actual trip, if you are old enough to recall, there was the H1N1 virus which was quite prevalent in the world, including Mexico, and the trip was almost cancelled. Eventually, the programme was postponed, and the situation got better and travel restrictions were lifted. Even so, many participants of the programme decided not to go ahead for personal reasons. Because this trip was such a rare opportunity, I made the decision to go ahead.

During my summer exchange, one of the trips organised by the university was to visit one of the great tourist attractions of Mexico, which is Teotihuacan.

Teotihuacan is an UNESCO World Heritage Site and features ancient ruins, the name Teotihuacan itself means "the place where the gods were created".

We earlier visited the Pyramid of the Moon, and now it's time to head over to the bigger, taller, and much grander, Pyramid of the Sun! By this time, we were already under the heat for about an hour, but nothing is going to stop us from scaling the massive pyramid!

And here we go! Step by step, under the sun, reminding us that that's what life is all about. Each day could be our step as we move closer to our personal successes each time we move forward.

We finally reached our halfway. A good timing to get some rest and catch up our breaths, and the next best thing to do is to take photos! Hehe!

That's Pyramid of the Moon into the distance! Amazed we walked so far all the way from there to here, all by foot!

Okay, we have rested enough. Time for our second half of the climb.

Yay we made it! Here's the "scary" look from the top all the way downwards. I know there are people who could be afraid of heights, but fortunately, I am pretty much okay. In fact, I do enjoy the scenery and views from high vantage points!

Here's the awesome points all the way from the top! As there is no shelter, it can really get quite hot and there is also the risk of sunburnt due to prolonged exposure, so do remember to bring the caps and sunblock lotions if you are heading here!

The exercise hasn't ended yet! We still have to descend! Hahaha. And for tired feet, going down stairs isn't an easy feat as well. But no matter how tired we were, it was definitely a worthwhile and meaningful visit.

We continued to explore the surroundings to see some of the citadels and smaller structures within the ruins.

Then we chanced upon something for us to climb! Everyone was doing it so we went up as well. Haha. Our poor feet. Lol!

And then we got the hype! From this point, one could capture both pyramids within one shot! Wow, look how much we have come from Pyramid of the Moon to Pyramid of the Sun to where we were at this point.

And that summed up our really amazing to Teotihuacan! Not only did we get to see the amazing pyramids and ruins, we also learnt and appreciate the Mexican history and culture. And after this visit, I could understand why this was one of the must visit attractions in Mexico. I hope you enjoyed the photos as much as I have spent time to share them!
