I think of it as a great experience to have climbed one of the well known mountains in the province- the Camel's Back also locally known as "Si-ong". I am not sure how it got its name "Camels Back" but based from the information I have read, it might be because of its unique hill formation that really looks like a camel from a distant.

Camels Back is known for its panoramic views of sorrounding mountains, islands and coastlines and one perfect place to witness the sunrise, sunset and gaze at stars during the night. From the top you can also view Naval town and appreciate the city lights at night. You can also enjoy the cool afternoon breeze.

LOCATION AND HOW TO GET THERE

Camel's Back is located at Brgy. Pili, Almeria, Biliran. It is a 30 minute hike from there.

Brgy. Pili is quite far from the natioanal road, thus it is advised to come riding a private vehicle going to the barangay where the hike begins. No need to worry for the parking because there is a guarded and fenced yard that lets visitors park their vehicles which are mostly motorbikes but you just have to pay a parking fee which is just affordable.

After parking, you might want to perform some warm up exercise before starting the hike as to prepare your body for the uphill and slanted trail.

It may be hot but it is best to start the hike an hour before the sunset.

Like any other mountain hike, the path is really challenging, you will get to walk on a rough rocky path and steep hill.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

Of course mountain hiking needs planning including how the weather would be like on the day of the hike. You surely would not want to hike on a rainy season aren't you? So be sure to check the weather especially at night. Again, you would appreciate the view when it is sunny, with the presence of the sunset, sunrise and the stars at night.

Also, the most important thing you should bring is water and of course food and any other personal essential things if you would want to spend the night like a tent. Be sure to bring a jacket as it is usually cold at night. You may also want to bring a cane or just grab a long wood stick along the path to assist you with the steep hike.

If you plan to set a bon fire be sure to set it on a non grassy land or else you might get to start a forest fire. Oh please dont. That would really be dangerous. So be sure to really put off the fire before sleeping or leaving the place.

Despite the challenging hike, I can assure you that reaching the peak is truly rewarding. You won't regret it as long as you note my reminders here. Hehe.

So if you happen to visit Biliran and would like to go for a hike, this is a recommendable mountain you might wanna visit.

Thanks for reading. Until next time. Love Nes.
