Passing the Time at Plaza Rizal in Lapulapu City, Cebu, Philippines

Today, I arrived in Cebu City and I am heading to the hotel where I’ll be staying. Yet, it was still very early for my noontime check in so I checked on my phone of any place nearby where I could rest and past the time. So, one on the list is Plaza Rizal. That made me remember, it was the plaza I’ve been curious to check during my last visit in Cebu but I didn’t have the chance to visit because I was already running out of time.

Plaza Rizal also known as Opon Plaza is located at Lapu-lapu City, Cebu. It is just a walking distance from Cebu-Mactan Ferry Terminal (Opon Port) Many people come here often in the late afternoon and at night to meet with friends or just take a walk with family members while enjoying some food. That is why it is also known as a fun family-friendly park. It usually looks stunning at night and more crowded because of its musical water fountain.

Today I came in the morning so the place looks peaceful and quiet which I really prefer. Before coming in I took a walk around the plaza from the outside.

You won’t really see everything from outside as it was covered with thick neatly trimmed bushes that seemed like walls. Another thing that is visible from the outside is the statue of Jose Rizal planted on a stage like platform.

After checking the outside sorrounding, I decided to walk in. On the entrance, there is a vendor selling mineral water. I thought there is an entrance fee but good thing it is free for the public. There is also a poster that states the rule and regulations while staying inside.

I was truly happy to finally see the plaza’s entirety. One thing that I really appreciate about the place is its clean and green sorroundings. You could see flowers and plants along the path. I would say it is well maintained. There are people working inside to maintain the plaza’s cleanliness. They are really hardworking as they are already cleaning early in the morning.

There are also tables and benches which is perfect for resting. I saw people having conversation inside and others are exercising.

Another thing you could find is the playground for kids. There are slides and monkey bars. There is also a public restroom. I really appreciate that they have directions posts, so you really won't get lost.

I also found this square tab with water. I thought long and hard wondering what could it be only to finally realize that it is a fountain. I guess the whole place would really look amazing at night.

Lastly, I also went to check other statues found inside which honors Datu Lapulapu, who is known to be the chieftain and hero of the Battle of Mactan.

I was so glad to be able to visit Plaza Rizal in Lapulapu City. Overall, I enjoyed the sights , felt relaxed and got to check some historical information. I wish to be able to come again.
