After leaving Chenega, we arrive before the entrance of Barnes Cove. Before entering, l flew the drone to see if there were any reefs or rocks that were uncharted...

Nachdem wir Chenega verlassen hatten, erreichten wir den Eingang zur Barnes Cove. Doch bevor wir einliefen, ließ ich die Drohne aufsteigen, um nach ungekarteten Riffen oder Felsen zu suchen...

This is the right side, and clearly you can see the reef going quite far out, and this is not seen on our charts.

Auf der rechten Seite – wie ihr deutlich sehen könnt – erstreckt sich das Riff weit hinaus, und es ist auf unseren Karten nicht verzeichnet.

On the left side it was clear, so we would just hug the left side.

Auf der linken Seite war alles frei – also blieben wir einfach dicht an der Backbordseite.

Barnes Cove:

It's a pretty shallow anchorage around 10 meters (around 30 feet), moreover: according to a information point they said that there could be bears - l looked around with the drone but had no luck. We still had another day as there were strong winds coming. The next day, l did see a bear but it was pouring down with rain so l couldn't get any photographs.

Es ist ein relativ flacher Ankerplatz – nur etwa 10 Meter (ca. 30 Fuß) tief. Außerdem warnten uns die Informationstafeln vor möglichen Bären. Ich suchte mit der Drohne das Ufer ab, hatte aber kein Glück.
Da ohnehin starker Wind aufkam, blieben wir noch einen Tag. Am nächsten Morgen sichtete ich tatsächlich einen Bären – doch es goss wie aus Eimern, sodass ich keine Fotos machen konnte.

We thought about climbing the mountains, however as the weather did a 180 turn, we thought it would be better just to enjoy the day inside the boat...

Eigentlich wollten wir die Berge besteigen – doch als das Wetter eine 180-Grad-Wende machte, beschlossen wir, den Tag lieber gemütlich im Boot zu verbringen...
