Syncthing - A nice tool for syncing files across machines

Probably this might be a very common tool but I recently identified this tool for syncing files across devices. Only when we have necessity we get to learn many tools. I always had my laptop as the single point of failure. I work on multiple projects, and I don't usually do git commits every single day. Mostly, I accumulate changes and do everything in one shot. But that's not the reason why I wanted to go for this tool. I always wanted to have my files synced to a good cloud service so that I can keep a backup of them even if my laptop is not functional. I would also like to have a facility to share the files across devices.

I have two developer laptops now, and I wanted to work from different locations in my house on different things. I wanted to use one for travelling and another for working from home. When I wanted to do this, the biggest challenge was keeping the files in sync. I wanted to have an experience where even if I work from different devices, my files should be there on both, and I wanted to be able to continue from where I left off. That's the primary reason why I wanted to start using Syncthing, and that does exactly what I wanted.

With the help of Syncthing, I'm able to share my files across servers and also keep my working files in the cloud so that I can access them whenever I want. The setup was also very simple. It took me a few minutes to configure and a few hours for the files to stay in sync across my devices. Then everything was good. I then found out that this can be used like Dropbox or other file storage, where the files are kept safe in multiple places. But it all depends on how we configure the file sync. People keep this just as a backup tool based on the right configurations.

Since this is a two-way sync, I learned that I have to be careful with a few things. If I'm going to delete an item, it will also get deleted from the other places as well, which may not be the use case for some people. So configuration is very important when it comes to using this tool.
