Codex usage limits are very bad even for a paid plan

With a huge frustration, I wanted to write this. I paid for the GO subscription to Chat GPT and got Codex. The main reason was that my usage limits started getting exhausted too soon, and it did not last for even one day, and I was able to interact with only a few questions. There is also no transparency on how the usage is being calculated. I was initially using a free plan, which I'm able to understand that the limits can happen, but at least for the paid plan, things should have been better, but my usage limit was reached in just one day, and that too in a few hours.

I don't know if this is something that happened recently or not. I have been using Codex for my coding needs for almost 1 month, I should say. Maybe the team was experimenting with it by providing more usage limits to the users. I don't know how I was lucky to have that because for about a month, I did not have any usage limit problem, and I used it like anything. I used Codex to refactor my projects, and there was no usage limit at all. But it all happened after I logged out once and logged back in. I'm guessing that's when they probably got me, and my account was set to a proper usage limit.

After that, logging out and logging in, I was able to see my usage start going down rapidly. OpenAI says that they tweaked this a little bit on April 2nd, and maybe that's when it started becoming tight for me, or it is a global thing for all the users. But in spite of being used to Codex for almost one month, I felt like my hand was broken when they tightened the usage limits. I couldn't stop myself from buying a paid subscription. I thought of going for a Pro plan, but I was not sure whether it would be worth it or not. I bought the Go plan and exhausted the weekly limit within just 1 day.

I did not even use it for more than 10 prompts. It was gone, and I had to wait for one week to get the usage reset, and it was not a great experience. But in one way, I'm glad that Codex at least gives the option to try it for free, but Claude's code does not even have a free plan. I have now started looking for options to host my own LLM and use it for my coding needs. I read from the reviews that there are so many open source models out there that are competitive and good for self-hosting. I'm probably going to pick one of those and use it. If not just me, maybe I can join hands with one of my friends and do it so that we can share. I think that's how the world might go in the future. People will start hosting their own LLMs and use them for their own needs with no usage limits.
