Today was not just an ordinary day in our barangay, it was a day filled with compassion, courage and community spirit. Our Barangay gymnasium become more than just a place for sports and gatherings, it became a place where live were saved.
When I heard about the bloodletting activity, I was so eager to join. I wanted to rill up my sleeves and donate blood, knowing that it could help save someone’s life. But when I got there and spoke with the healthcare workers, I found out I wasn’t physically fit to donate this time, for a moment, I felt disappointed, I really wanted to be part of the giving.
But then I realized there are many ways to help. So, I stayed and watched, cheering for the brave donors who lined up one by one. Some were first timers, looking a little nervous while others seemed like tey had done this before and proudly encouraged others to try.
The atmosphere inside the gym was inspiring. Neighbors were talking and laughing. Sharing stories while waiting for their turn. The healthcare team worked carefully and gently, making sure every donor felt comfortable and safe. But there were few members of the medical team who seemed a bit strict and unapproachable which made some donors feel more nervous. Thankfully, most of them were kind and friendly, which helped keep the event running smoothly.
Even though I couldn’t Donte blood myself, Just being there reminded me of the power of community. I accompanied my husband to donate blood. After donating, everyone was given a warm serving of arrozcaldo and it felt good to see people smiling as they shared a simple meal together. The organizers even prepared rice packs top take home as a thank you for their generosity.
Walking out of the gym, I still felt fulfilled. I may not have donated blood today, but I supported and celebrated those who did. This day reminded me that saving lives is not just for those who can give blood, it’s for everyone who chooses to show up, encourage others and help spread the word.
Thank you for reading my story. This is my owned picture, edited in Canva. This bloodletting day was not just about collecting blood. It was about kindness and proving that when we come together as a community, We can make a difference, one act of support at a time. 💛
