Night of New Moon

On a dark night of New Moon,
my little niece asked me something,
Where is the moon, I can't see it
It was there yesterday like a piece of silver,
Where is it today, it hasn't come out?

I was thinking, how do I explain it new moon nights
These things are beyond its understanding,

I said, The moon is black today
Why is it so - tell me the secret?

I said quickly, once a month.
The moon gets tired, gets exhausted!
The silvery colour evaporates from it,
Black ink gets applied on it,
Will it sleep to its heart's content tonight?

Every day, whenever he wakes up after sleeping,
The darkness will fade and he will bloom,
He will peek into the sky, from behind the trees,
From the window of the room, he will ask for you

Do you know where I went?
I too have a mother, just like you,
I went to sleep in her lap,
I went to get love to my heart's content,
She pampered me, took care of me,
She then sent me to the gates of the sky!
This glow of mine is not mine,
The mother who pampered me, kissed me,
This glow of hers is filled in me!

Every day I walk miles in the sky,
That's why one day, I get tired,
I get covered by the dust of the journey,
That day I become so dark,
I am unable to give light to anyone
Okay, 'The moon is dark today'
My niece repeated what I said,
I said yes, 'the moon is dark today
