Brian's Crossroad

Brian sat on the stairs feeling disappointed as she buried her face in her knee. The afternoon sun that cast shadows across the worn stone steps offered little warmth to her. Her fiery red hair, usually a vibrant beacon, was now a tangled curtain with her head tucked in-between her knees. She had sat there for what felt like eternity, struggling between her decisions to either stay or leave. She had arrived in the City with a heart full of hope, but her optimism was swallowed. Rejection piled up like a heap of sand throwing tantrum at her

Should she go back? She thought, but admitting defeat was a bitter pill. She had resolved not to come back until she had achieved her dream, but the reality looked far different from what she had visualized. Maybe she should find a new path she thought, forging a new dream from the shattered remnant of her current one didn't look like a bad idea. She lifted her head, her gaze falling on a tiny persistent weed pushing it way through a crack in the stone, it was insignificant, yet it found its way to reach the light.

To others it might have been insignificant, but to Brian who found herself in this state of disappointment saw it as a lesson. Maybe, the steps weren't a dead end she thought. A little push may be all that she need to touch the light. "Maybe all she needs is to find a crack in the city and push through," she said. She picked up her bag and once again headed to the city, this time determined not to be broken by rejection.

Brian is a girl's name these days?
