It's been ages since I posted something in this community. To be honest, I haven't really watched new anime recently... though I've been rewatching some of my favorites and I've been reading a bunch of Webtoons... XD
However, I decided to tick off some items on my long and ever-growing list, and watched Kaijuu No. 8 yesterday and also finished the second season today. The first season has 12 episodes while the second one has 11.

In this anime's setting, Japan is attacked by gigantic monsters called "Kaijuu". To counter them, the country created a militarized organization, the Defense Force.

Mina and Kafka are childhood friends whose hometown was destroyed by kaijuu. They swore to become captains of the defense force and stand side-by-side in the future, defeating the monsters that once destroyed their home. However, only Mina succeeded, and Kafka ended up working for the organization that cleans up the remains of the slaughtered kaijuu.

In his job, he met Reno, who applied as a part-timer. Reno aims to join the defense force/ While in their job, they encountered a kaijuu... and Kafka, with his innate nature of protecting others despite not having enough skills, tried to protect Reno. They both survived the attack, but had to be sent to the hospital.

While recovering, Kafka was attacked by a small kaijuu and ended up being a humanoid kaijuu with strength equal to or greater than the monsters terrorizing the country. With this power, he and Reno applied to become part of the Defense Force... though they'd have to keep Kafka's kaijuu form a secret. XD

The premise of this story is actually interesting, but I don't understand why people still live in an area where humongous monsters can attack at any time of the day. I don't think I could live normally unless I'm in the defense force.
The story itself was good. It's quite similar to World Trigger, in my opinion, though the pacing is very different. Kaijuu No. 8 is too fast, but I don't mind since I enjoyed the fight scenes. However, it would be awesome if they showed more of the strategic team battles and military politics for the story to have more depth.
Still, it's understandable since planning to counter a surprise attack is almost impossible. The characters in Kaijuu No. 8 work more on instinct, with support from people from the office/laboratory. XD
Speaking of characters, I love them! hahaha It's fun to see an amusing blend of characters, from seasoned veterans, young prodigies, underdogs, and a 32-year-old guy who became a kaijuu. LOL
I found two favorite characters in this anime, so far. I'm a sucker for gap characters, and I'm blessed with two of them. They're both very eccentric but are really powerful. One seems like a happy-go-lucky sadist, but is great with melee and swordfighting, while the other is a lazy otaku gamer, but is one of the strongest captains among the defense force.
If you've watched this series, guess who my faves are based on my description above... :D
Anyway... I finished two seasons in two days, and that's while working, so you can imagine how fast-paced the story is. hahaha But really, I hate the cliffhanger at the end of season 2. There's an upcoming movie, but I doubt I could wait, so after posting this, I'm going to start reading the manga. haha
So, have you watched this one yet? What do you think? Comment down below... ^^
